This thread is quite a simple idea, it works like this:

If you think nvidia are the best:

 - 2 reasons why nvidia are best

 - 2 reasons why AMD are worst

If you think AMD/ATI are the best:

 - 2 reason why AMD are best

 - 2 reasons why nvidia are worst

Feel free to add coments but dont post unless you give your reasons. (if you cant think of 2 reasons then give 1)

I hope you enjoy this discussion :D

I did make this thread so im sure i know what its about.

Re- read

We are talking about GPU NOT CPU.

The reason i wrote AMD/ATI is so there was no confusion and people knew this thread is about GPU.

Not like nVidia or AMD.

Well, the title does make sense, as ATi are now a division of AMD.

Yes I know that but ATI stll exist with AMD. In that case he should change the title to nVidia or ATI/AMD.

nVidia or AMD means GPUs or Processors

Intel is better as it runs considerably cooler

Intel is better as it runs significantly faster

Intel has more bang for the buck

Intel has a higher roof of overclocking

Intel is about to switch to 45nm chips and also will have a double quad with 8 cores

Nvidia has better driver support (so ive heard)

its really a question of which ice cream flavor do you like.....video cards a preference but nvidia has the lead atm...as far as ati is concerned, there is news that the x2900 is performing underpar but there is no efficient data to back up that claim

I think neither of them remain constantly the best, Currently however I have noticed that all the support forum I go to are jam packed and overflowing with geforce 8 complaints. I was thinking of getting a 8800 but after reading some complaints i might wait for ati.

TheDarthvader

Actually, ATI's been around much longer than nVidia. ATI's been around since 1985, and nVidia's from 1994ish.

ATI has been making graphics cards since the '80s,  Nvidia didn't get started until the '90s.

And ATI topped performance charts with the X1900 generation as well - Nvidia held the midrange, but it was outclassed when you compared the 7900GT to the X1900XT, or the X1950XT to the 7950GT.

I wouldn't call ATI new, I mean they have been around since the 80's.

I prefer ATI before the purchase by AMD due to the fact that they are Canadian (Got to have some canadian pride) and that I have always found quality in their products.

Nvidia on the other hand have also treated me well over the years but I prefer ATI as with my experience with Nvidia, I tend to have more technical issues with their products. (Not just my problems, only really had one, but friends/family/colleges problems that I had to solve.) Plus, they ramp up the price of a product that shouldn't be so expensive.

the X1900 and X1800 were horrible cards. horrible coolers, horrible PCB's which became overly hot and took away too much power. dont you ever wonder why a X1900GT is worth 110$ when a 7600GT is still expensive??

The reference cooler wasn't great - but the ICEQ 3 cooler solved pretty much every single one of those problems. And the card still outperformed the 7900 series, or are you going to argue against that point?

Everyone who does not understand the topic title are the biggest NOOBs i have ever heard of.

I dont understand how people can understand how to switch on their PC's if they dont understand that ATI is now called AMD.

The new AMD graphics cards are called "AMD HD 2000 series" not ATI!

And also dont people read the OP's message. I said AMD/ATI for all the people who need their mum's to do their shoe laces!

Also where is the common sense? Why would we be comparing GPU's to CPU's? You need both!

And the people who did respond correctly i say thank you for not being stupid.

Man, you are really a genius, I vote for it.

I never used any ATI card while without any special reason. It doesn't mean that I prefer nVidia more,  it is just a coincide.

At very begining, most people said that ATI was better in quality of  graphics while nVidia is faster, but now I think they are both power consumed, too large and too hot. If they could, they should slow the meaningless competition.

Almost forget, I will chose nVidia now because ATI (or you want say it as AMD) always cannot release their latest card. They are just speaking, always boast, talk big,  and then no card. X1900 series was quite behind 7800 series in the release time and caused they lose a lot of market share. While, worse than that, nowdays 8800 series is  only one we can choose as a dx10 card----in fact, we have nothing more to choose, because x2900 is still in ATI's lab. I know it will be released soon, but I don't think that it will win market share back.

Sorry the effort by the OP was nice, but it's quickly turning into something very different then originally invented so I'm going to close this.

I wish I could offer some solid advice for getting people to read the directions as it were, but I have a hard enough time getting them to just read the stickies
