I'm about to order a new 8800 GT card and I see theres like 4 different version on EVGA's website. Question is are they only a gimmick for people too lazy to overclock the stock version themselves? Or are they naturally better than the stock version?

Because if I can overclock a stock version past what a Superclocked Edition card is at then I'll just buy the stock one.

They sometimes add better fans to oc'd cards.

Also you void the warranty if you oc the card yourself.

Basically they're there to make extra money from the people who either don't know how to or don't feel safe overclocking on their own. The stock cards have no problem reaching the core/shader/memory speeds of the factory overclocked cards.

XFX, and EVGA both cover overclocking completely. Overclocking will not void BFG's warranty, as long as it is not the reason for the damage.

The factory overclocked sometime are higher binned cards that will be able to OC farther than the standard cards. But for the most part, you can buy a no-OC'ed card and OC it to the point of the factory overclocked one.

I myself am not impressed with most factory OC'ed cards. Sometimes you can get them for the same price, or just a little more than standard, then it is usually worth it.

They are specially picked so that they will work overclocked. Some stock 8800GTs run the chance of not being able to go as high (although I haven't seen one that doesn't). I would suggest if you know anything about overclocking, you get the stock because it's very unlikely that you will get a bad one that can't overclock as high.
