Hello,

My question to you: Is it worth buying an nvidia 8xxx card now or should i wait until the next gen comes out? I just cant decide so help me, one thing i was very worried about is this:

- I'm personally very looking forward to the release of the mmorpg "age of conan" which will be a directx 10 title. If i would buy a nvidia 8xxx card now, i would be very dissapointed seeing a 20 fps while playing in directx 10 mode in 1280x1024 with all eye candy enabled while an nvidia 9xxx card would run in flawlessly. (of course this is including other directx 10 titles to)

Your opinions plz (srry for bad english)

88xx cards are better in DX10 gaming even you are going to play @ 1280x1024.

Buy a 8800GTS 640MB & you will be able max out that game @ 1280x1024.

If you want higher resolutions than that (1680x1050 & up) + full eye candy, it is better to have a 9xxx card

If you're happy enough with your current card. I would wait. Otherwise, waiting sucks.

If youre going to wait, just remember, Yes, nvidia has shown a pattern with their previous card releases that brings one to believe the next release will be in november, I wouldn't hold my breath. I have yet to see a offical statement from nvidia about the 9xxx series and it's release. Sure, you see it on forums but that all origninated from an inquier post, which we all know to be a bunch of CRAP. Wait if youre satisfied, buy now if you want to join the rest whos already purchased an 8xxx. Of course, up to you.

I haven't heard anything about the 9 series. So, it could be coming this year or we might have to wait until 2008.

Well, I plan to build a new rig in 2008, so I am definitely going to wait. The 9 series should be out sometime next year if not this year.

my PC should be able to handle all the games coming out this year just fine, so i'll wait and save up for a 9800 GTS, then i can get one the day it comes out :)

why do people make plans on pure speculation, nvidia havn't actually said there is going to be a 9xxx card out this year.an 8800GTS 320mb will run age of conan maxed out probably 16X AA at 1280X124 and still get you 25+ fps.

DUDE!!!!!!!!

WAIT!!!!!!!!

FOR THE 11800gtx ultra........

(to put it simple you can always find an excuse to wait the next in line is always better........butt do you want to wait ?

if like said in above posts if you are happy enough with your current card then maybe wait.

If your current card sucks I would probably buy a new one now :D .

you don't know when or even if the 9800 will be released this year maybe they won't even call it a 9800 I think the name is to old-school ATI ;) )

only thing I can add is for now I am very happy with my 8800gtx I could recommend it :)

Again I reply, I'd wait for an OFFICIAL RESPONSE from Nvidia before you believe anything about the next series of cards. All information about the next series of cards is PURE speculation basedsolely off of the Inquirer, nothing has been confirmed.
The next series will pwn, no questions asked, hands down. When it's coming out and how much it will pwn is still up in the air until Nvidia releases Specs on the next series.

and the rest of your system ??

cpu and ramm

if the rest of the parts are good enough I would think of a 8800gts and if it's in your budget a gtx

your card is 2 gen old you really will get a big performance boost (that is if the rest is up to date)

waiting for a 9 series can take long (no one knows a date)

Buy an 8 series card, and then when the 9 series comes out, assuming it does, sell your 8 series card on ebay and then save up an extra 200 to buy a nice 9 series card. Problem solved. You could wait but you'd be missing out on 3-4 months of great games.

but first let us know the rest of the system (no use buying a 8 serie if you won't be using it's potential because of a bottleneck )

Right now I have a Q6600 paired with an 7600GT so i'm going to upgrade to 8800GTS 320mb(1024x768 is max on my current monitor anyways) so i'll get good frames in bioshock, ut3,etc. Then in December i'll upgrade to the newest card and get a better monitor.
