I'll go with "kinda" - I liked the confrontation and how certain companions would stick with you or turn on you depending on how you interacted with them throughout the game. The end dungeon and battles were great fun, and well done, however the final two battles were strangely not amongst the more difficult ones in the game, especially the battle against the King of Shadows himself - I had more problems killing Batha than I did him or Garius.

If you're refering to the slideshow at the very end, well, yeah, that was kind of lame and the voice narrating it was kind of a strange choice. However, the being trapped underground with an uncertain fate was kind of interesting, especially since we know now that there is an expansion pack on the way - one I cannot wait for! I like not knowing which companions made it out or not, but it would have been better to end with some banter with a scene watching the party try to escape and maybe argue over it, or so.

You should throw a *Spoilers* warning on your thread topic man.

Otherwise there have been a few polls about the worst game endings, and NWN2 was right up there. I believe this is due to the constant build up of the king of shadows, and how it will be the ultimate confrontation. So you defeat him, and an extremely lame ending comes after. The generic - where is our hero now, he will be etched in history that we've all heared so much before. After all this build up I would have expected something so grand I would feel like I would have gotten my moneys worth, but this ending definately left me wanting more.

I definately agree with AlphaHumana in the respect that the alliances you have end up either hurting or benefitting you. A little shocking too I might add! "Damn you, how could you turn on me, I gave you everything! RAWR!" or something along those lines.

But to answer the question, massive lead up - lame lame lame generic ending. First game I've played that gave me the impression that the ending was extremely rushed, even while watching it.

I understand that the ending for characters who chose the evil route and sided with the King of Shadows is more interesting than that of those who fought against him. I'd consider playing through it again to find out, but the game is still so buggy that I find playing it to be a chore. Still, it's a better ending than KOTOR II, Half-Life 2, or Broken Sword 4.

Yeah the narrator was terrible and did not at all get into what he was doing. I much prefer the narrator from the first NWN and his darker voice. The part where your team splits up was great (a bit predictable) but devestating none the less. I remember when Qara went against me I was really...really pissed since I spent everything I had to make her perfect for the last battle...but alas it was in vain.

The entire game bugged me due tot he fact it was unfinished, linear with a story that no where compared to another linear game such as Knights of the Old Repulbic, and had numerous performance issues.. Seriouslly why Bioware allow these knuckles heads to take over a successful series one after another, when they churn out unfinished, rushed, and buggy garbage like this is beyond me.

The entire game was easy on the highest difficulty.. The AI makes 10 year old games look competitive..
Anyways rant over with, no the ending didn't bug me what so ever.. Infact the creators have already said your character is continuing after that with the upcoming expansion which I probably will not buy what so ever.

Oh get over yourself, I don't see why people keep holding up kotor of all games when plot is mentioned, beyond that one now famous plot twist, it's rather generic rpg stuff. The plot in Neverwinter Nights 2 was actually really good... except that it's just so linear in some ways. Oh sure, in specific scenes you can play things out differently, such as the trial your character is put under that was actually very well done, but everything leading up to those kinds of scenes are the same no matter what. Every character has the same party members open to them and certain party members will barely react to how you play your character untill the very end, etc. But beyond my gripes, the plot was quite good and managed to avoid the 'you are the chosen one' cliche by employing a neat extremely unlikely but nevertheless possible character point. Some of the characters were a bit cliche in the game, hell, alot cliche, but others like Khelgar who you'd think would be the most flat of them all turned out pretty good in the end. I was surprised.

I like Obsidian, I really do. They're extremely good at storytelling and making genuinly interesting characters... but lets face it, they're terrible at polishing and refining games. I can forgive Knights of the Old Republic 2 because it really wasn't Obsidians fault it ended up so unfinished since Lucasarts cut their promised development time and forced a game release so they could have it on shelves for christmas. But even if Lucasarts hadn't, I get the feeling still would have been a buggy game like NWN2 turned out to be (although to be fair they've been doing a good job patching the game). Obsidian just can't get a grip on this entire 'polish' thing, they had the same problem back when they were Black Isle. Bioware on the other hand is great at polishing and refining a game to a shiny edge, they just lack the creativity that Obsidian has. We know the two studios know each other and like each other, so dammit, why wont you two work TOGETHER on a game again instead of Bioware handing off IP's to Obsidian. C'mon guys, the last time you worked together you got Baldur's Gate, one of the best rpg's of all time, just immagine what'd happen if they got together nowadays!

But anyway... As for the ending; it was alright all things considered. A bit anticlimactic really but entertaining. It could have been done alot better though. The battle scene with your castle was more interesting I found and the ending 'cliffhanger' sequel style ending was a pure copout. Hopefully the expansions plot wont have that problem.

The lead-up to the ending was great, with a bunch of varied gameplay styles (the battles at the keep, and the classic dungeon crawl at the end). The slideshow ending itself wasn't bad; I'm fairly indifferent about it.

I can't really think of a better way for the ending to play out, but that's not necessarily a good thing. Endings of 'classic' RPGs aren't that much better - KOTOR and BG2 also had fairly anti-climactic end-scenes.
