I'm wondering which game has more people playing (or more people potentially playing). What is the big difference between the two? And why are some fans of the first one so pissed off about the second one?
Any answers will be awesome!

Nwn 2 is the one to get if you have a good computer. It came out poorly optimized so it runs crappy on older comps. Nwn2 is the same as nwn1 except it has better graphics, 3.5 edition D&D rules, advanced editor, etc... Nwn1 has more content though of course since it's been out for 5 years, has a couple expansions and lots of mods but Nwn2 will get there in time.Vazz7
By which time NWN 3 will be out.
Hmm... On one hand Neverwinter Nights 1 has been out for years now and has tons and tons of content. Expansions, mini-content packs & mods aplenty! Years worth of stuff, alot of which is top quality stuff! Massive mods that're practically full campaigns in themselves as well as an active multiplayer community.
On the other hand Neverwinter Nights 2 is just a more improved game. The singleplayer campaign is better than the first games, the engine is much more powerful and purdy (although it's a bit glitchy) and the group-gameplay is more fun than the first games solo character control. On the other hand the modding scene is only now really starting to pick up like NWN1's and the game still needs a bit more patching before it'll be as smooth, plus the multiplayer hasn't quite started up yet.
Hmmm... it's really a hard pick. I own both and have since they each came out, so I've never really considered which I'd get if I had to pick. They've both got their advantages. But then again... you also have to continue the modding scene for NWN2 is picking up as people move from NWN1 to 2. So while NWN1 has tons of stuff, NWN2 is the one getting more new stuff.
NWN1 has better multiplayer, with more people playing online and craploads on mods.
NWN2 has better single-player, although the online/mod community is a bit slow at the moment (and may not improve much).
If you don't have the specs, don't get NW2.
I have a 8800gts, and I still can't max the bastard with full settings. It's really poorly optimized. A great game, but you need atleast the recommended settings to enjoy it.

Anybody can backup his claim? Then I can throw it out of my mind.

There is something horribly wrong with his PC if that is happening. I have a 7600GT and can nearly max NWN2 out(AA off, soft shadows off and shadow quality medium) with a playable framerate(Meaning 25+FPS average)
there is nothing wrong with his pc...it is a hog on the cpu and ram.
i had a 7900gto and traded it in as well for the 8800 gts 320 mb and still cant' 'totally ' max it out. it has to do with the content though... I am making a mod for it.
if you don't have at least a 7600 i say wait till you upgrade and get nwn1 platinum...and play with tortured hearts and other mods that are really cool. nwn2 will be....the best game available kinda like vista will be really cool....in afew months.
NWN2 was a rushed disapointment to say the least. The singleplayer was tolerable the first play through, but do to how damn linear the game is (10x more linear then the first) you will get bored with the second play through. The game also has brain dead AI where some team mates you can not arm with AoE's or they can and will kill the entire party..
Fortantly bad guys don't do this because the game cheats by not making their AoEs hurt the bad guys allies (on hardcore settings, genious I know).. The game is very easy on top of that with a story that is cool the first half and turns into crap the second half.. Characters are at first intersting turn into crap with little interesting dialog after a certain point.
The game is heinously optemized to the point that people with 8800s have been getting 20fps's with the game.. I still get performance hit in certain areas with a 8800 GTS which is rediculous because the game is at best acceptable.
In the end multiplayer is a lag fest where people sitll drop constantly.. Look at the tech support forum for NWN2 its rediculous.. To conclude Obsidian is definitly a company I will boycott with them pretty much ruining two of Biowares top series, NWN and KOTOR.
Hmm... Obsidian is one company I don't really like.
BTW, Freespace 2 is one of the best games of all time.

Not a fan of online ordering, but I'll see if Futureshop will accept this.

Yeah, it's poorly optimized and when I say poorly I mean poorly. It runs like utter crap on lower end systems.
