ok, i need to use the poll feature but dang it to the forum rules. anyway, i'd like to get nwn2. but i'd rather get it at steam. steam mentioned it would have it in the future, but it hasn't as of yet and there's been no news or update regarding it. i'm dying to play a good rpg (last good one i played (and yes, i played oblivion - it wasn't good, imo) was...kotor 2, i believe). and though nwn2 may not be the best, it has things i'm looking for. there's the witcher as well and i'll get it eventually, but right now i want one that allows me to customize extensively my character.

so, should i get nwn2: gold retail or should i wait for it to appear on steam? on the one hand, i'm really itching to play a good rpg; on the other hand, i really love steam and the convenience of having everything in one place (not to mention i hate having to switch cds/dvds everytime i play a new game). so what do you guys think? anyone know when steam's going to sell nwn2?

NWN2 is coming to Steam? Awesome! I've been thinking of getting this game and it coming to Steam would prolly be enough to make me buy it. Anyway, I think you should wait for it to come out on Steam. I've got that RPG itch too, but I like the convenience of Steam so I can wait for a while. :)

I wasn't aware NWN2 was coming to steam. But I think you should just get it now on dvd if you're that anxious. The gold package is a great deal digitally or materially.

Always go with the option that gives you a hard copy. Companies and services come and go and lets face it customer service is never very good *after you paid so when it comes to software, it is always better to get a hard copy. If you are worried that it might get scratched just make an image of the game and use that instead. It works perfectly with NWN2. On a side note: I would definitly wait till the Gold comes out to save money. The game isnt that great. Not bad mind you but not KOTOR quality especially pre-patches. The game is still practically unplayable in multiplayer as well.

NWN2 the original was one of the biggest flops in my eyes, for a long time.. Its one of the most inoptemized games out there.. Seriously other then Crysis I do not get the performance hits I do in NWN2.. The game is laughably easy in the end.. AI is brain dead for both team mates and enemies.. Team mates will happily set down aoe's on you, while enemies break set core rules to some how make the game harder for the person. The game is also EXTREMELY linear.. KOTOR and NWN may have been complained for being some what linear.. But they are not in the same ball park when it comes to NWN2. The story is subpar, the character dialogue started out great, and then nose dived into oblivion 2/3's into the game.. Not sure about the most recent patchs but there were a significant amount of repeatable game breaking bugs.. My personal favorite was the monk ultimate weapon quest, where the guy basically ate 90% of my entire inventory including the shards which you need to get further into the game. I can't say anything about the expansionb ecause I have yet to play it..

doh! oh well. i'll play the waiting game, in that case. i'll just see what steam offers and at what price and make a decision then. by that time, mass effect will be out, so i guess i'll get my rpg fix then. thanks for your assessment of the game.

I was looking at the gold edition as well. Up until about a few days ago the release date was actually april 27th. I believe the reason it was pushed back a full month has something to do with Ossian studio's new premium module Mysteres at Westgate. A code comes packaged with the gold edition of Neverwinter Nights 2 that lets you download Mysteries. The gold editon may have been pushed back to allow Ossian to finish their mod in time.

sweet~! i hear the expansion is quite good, even as the original may be a bit lackluster compared to nwn1 (though i didn't really like nwn that much - it was a lot of 'go to this section of town, kill all the monsters' * 4) and i heard some good things about that mod. anyway, hopefully, steam will have it by then.

The latest patches have fixed most of the performance problems, for me, anyways. While I agree that NWN2 was a little subpar, I still thought it was a solid RPG. And I advise you get the expansion. It's amazing...everything that NWN2 should have been, including a much, much, muuuuch better story. The only slight annoyance is a gameplay mechanic they introduce that bothered some people, but not myself. I like challenges. :P

well, i got the witcher! i have my reservations about playing a horny old geezer, but, hey, so many people are praising it. i would have waited for it to be released on steam, except i seriously doubt that the steam version will be uncensored. so i decided to get the witcher uncensored version from gogamer.com. i'm going to wait for nwn2 to be released on steam (and even then wait for the price to be below $40 for the gold version).

I ordered my copy of the witcher from the same website. Only thing is while I get the uncensored version and I can download the expansion later to enhanced, I heard there was some pretty nice stuff going to be packaged with the retail enhanced version.

I suggest you wait a long time 'cos the game is the buggiest game ever, with every patch they fix a few things and mess up even mroe things, if you have the expansion pack installed there's no way to finish the original campaign 'cos of the new bugs, maybe in the future there will be a good patch. Obsidian sucks

I suggest you get some other RPGs like: KOTOR1 (K2 was crap, made by Obsidian), Jade Empire, Fable or Vampire - Bloodlines

i had kotor; i have kotor 2; i like them both (kotor more than kotor 2). i have vampire; i'm not a big fan of vampire; i don't like how if you have a high enough charisma or sex appeal or whatever rating you can practically do anything you want; makes the game way too easy. and of course the combat system sucks. and the controls are a bit wonky. i'm still trying to play it every once in a while, but i'm having a hard time getting into it, just like i'm having a hard time getting into oblivion. and it's a shame for me, cuz i think i'm the type that normally likes games like vampire (cuz i love torment, bg2, fallout 1 & 2, etc.).

jade empire is good? i had my reservations cuz it seemed like all action and little role-playing. and never looked into fable, but i guess i should.

Jade Empire is decent. Its pretty short though, and I was a little disappointed because at the time I was one of those types that bought my games based on what reviewers said. So I bought Jade empire with the assumption it was going to be the best rpg in the world after seeing Ign's infamous 9.9 rating for the game. I rushed out and bought it only to find that while it was a fun but short game it was probably only worth an 8. I learned my lesson that day. Now I only buy games based on personal experience.

I bought NwN2. Not my type of game. I'm trying to sell to my friends for $10, but my friends aren't big RPG fans.

it was mentioned in one of the steam news article on the day that atari made some of their games available on steam. the articles mentioned that both the witcher and nwn2 will be released on steam in a few weeks, which should mean that those two games will be available sometime real soon.

is that right? i'm getting too many conflicting opinions. anyway, i'll probably end up getting the game. but i'll wait for it to be sold on steam and then buy it when it's cheaper than the $50 or so that it'll cost to get both nwn2 and the expansion now.

Like others have said it was somewhat of a flop. One of the best features of NWN was its multiplayer feature which is still broken in NWN2 (after more than a year) and it doesnt look like Obsidian will ever figure it out otherwise they would have long ago. I definitly dont think the game is worth $50 even with the expansion in its current state. The gold edition will probably be on sale when it first comes out for about $35 so wait for that.

All that said, the single player game in NWN2 was not horrible. It is insanely linear but it is worth a single play through. Unfortunatly the OC is so cumbersome that you will never want to play it again. MotB was a little better but still... this is not BG, KOTOR, or PS:T.
