Same here, I'm on a laptop 4gig ram, 320 hdd, duo core 2.6ghz, sygmatell hdmi sound card or something. Voices worked fine untill i modded it. So now voices don't work in Oblivion or Fallout 3. Same problem for both. I can hear voices outside of a convrsation, but once i engade in a convo. the voices stop like the hardware didn't notice.

not sure if it works in Oblivion but in Fallout 3 (almost same game tbh) it helps if you switch 7.1 speakers to 2.anything or headphones in windows

Just fixed my problem myself... That particular engine doesn't like my sound settings on anything other than 2 speaker audio. Mine was set to 5.1 audio, switched it off and it worked perfectly.

I'm having the same problem, but I can't figure how to change my speakers from anything but 5.1! When I go to Control Panel > Sound and try to adjust my speaker properties, 5.1 is the only option in the list! I'm using Vista. I'd really appreciate an answer to this.
