Well, depends on your playstyle for one thing, and how u wanna play the game.
Â
Oblivion's stats can be maxed pretty easily, along with skillz, so race becomes more like how you want ur character to look like. I took the cat looking race. Or if u want the resistant and some natural buffs.
The sad thing about my Oblivion experience, is that I when I finally maxed out EVERYTHING and got like |337tz items and top ranks for every guild and association, my PC got F-ed, had to reformat and I lost all save files.
Meaning that, I've never played the Main Quest before. And I'm too lazy to actually restart the game. Haha.
I hope this helps ^^

I like wood elves because theyre good archers and theyre hippies, you know, cuz they live in the woods. The chicks are hot too, I made an Angelina Jolie lookalike.mrbojangles25
LOL! Exactly the same here - I, too, made a Angelina Jolie-like wood elf archer/thief... One really ugly Angelina... :)

If only Oblivion had an online mode, we could meet up and get them to kiss and spoon.
I think Breton is generally considered the "best" safe choice magic race because they get +50 magicka, and magicka resistance, with no downsides.
You can pretty much do melee fighting with any character. I find that even if I choose a Nord/Redguard/Orc I still end up using magic anyway, because the way the game was made, its pointless just being a 'melee' type fighter, you might as well do everything at once.
Don't listen to the guy telling you willpower is not important, it is what destruction and a few other magics use. The higher your willpower the more powerful your destruction spells and the less mana they use.vfibsuxThat is completely untrue. First of all, your spells technically never get more powerful. Once you acquire a spell, that's it; you will simply have to make or purchase a more powerful spell. And your skill in a particular school of magic (Destruction, Restoration, Illusion, etc.) is what determines the magicka cost of the associated spells. The only thing that Willpower determines is the rate at which you regenerate magicka (i.e. how long it takes to fill your magicka bar). But this happens at the same rate, regardless of the size of your magicka pool. So even if your Willpower is at 100, it would take the same amount of time to regenerate 100 magicka as it would 500 magicka. The best strategy, then, is to try and achieve the highest amount of magicka (by raising Intelligence).
Wow, talk about bringing something back from the dead.I like Bretons because there a mix between combat and magic with no down sides.

My personal favorite is Khajiit (the cat looking). Because of their natural speed, they make good thieves.
Or if you want your character too look like a human at least, i prefer Dark Elf.
