Why does everyone on this website seem to have an obsession with Crysis? Its in almost every review I read and is often said to be one of the greater games in 2007 yet I disagree. Not only does it take a very high up computer to run Crysis but even when you do, its really not much more then a standard first person shooter, its really nothing special and doesnt deserve the credit its given.

Crysis is a good game in its own right. Even without the visuals which are just icing on the cake, it still would have been a great shooter.

First, there is the whole suit idea. Its more than a gimmick since it actually changes gameplay and allows you to play a variety of ways. The first time I played Crysis, and run'n'gun'd as I usually do, and it was fun. The second time, I used stealth and avoided combat. The third time, I used nothing but strength and fist-fought everyone when possible.

Adding to the replayability of the suit is the open environment. Each time I played the game, I took a different path. The must be dozens of ways to complete each segment of each level. For example, remember the little village where you need to rescue the captured CIA spy? Lets count the ways you can get into the village:

1. sneak in along the waterfront. You can then either go up from the beach, or hook all the way around and stroll up the road
2. walk in the back where you initially see the base
3. hook around to the left by the forest and waterfall and sneak in.

Then there is the AI which is amazing. Enemies use grenades to flush you out, they take cover, they retreat and reform with allies...its trully amazing to actually sit back and watch the enemy react to you before mercilessly taking them out.

In addition, its also one of the longest shooters to come out in a long while, perhaps even rivaling STALKER in length. In a world where CoD4 and Episode 1 are good games, Crysis stands alone not only because it matches the quality of those titles, but it also gives it to us in length.

So thats why I am obesesed with Crysis. Because its the best shooter since Halflife. Oh, and did I mention that it has the best graphics ever seen in a game, even at 1024x768?

I would think many people would play WoW or half-life. They are probably more popular.

Huh? Standard?

Is the ability to turn invisible in the standard FPS?

Is the ability to customise your weapons with a variety of scopes, sights and even tranquilisers in the standard FPS?

Is AI that facilitates both stealthing and run n gunning in the standard FPS?

Is a fantastic pace based around change of scenario - from jungle to zero g to icy jungle to aircraft carrier - in the standard FPS?

And let's not even talk about the visuals - which do have an impact on gameplay. Anyone who says visuals can't help a game is deluded. Imagine playing a game like Doom 3 before real time shadows... yeah. That you need a high end PC is unfortunate, but you have to be objective when you rate games. You might not have a high end PC, but I think the last time I checked the Valve hardware survey, about 10% had 8 series GPUs.

Crysis is not like any other FPS out there - it's not even like Far Cry. But the thing about Crysis is that it's sandbox, it's up to you to make it the game it is. If you just play it like a run n gunner, you'll probably be pretty bored. if you make use of all your tools and weapons... well... it's an entirely different game.

I do not care much for eye candy - I am all about the gameplay. I still play Doom, because it's just so much fun to play. And by the time Crysis is to the eyes of the future as Doom is to our eyes, I'll still probably be playing Crysis. Because it's just so much fun to play.

really, cuz I coulda sworn I was running at 1440x900 very high with a 1200 dollar PC.

Comeon folks, its like you WANT Crysis to be unobtainable. Just buy it already, its a good game regardless of how purdy you can make it.

4. Survey the people from hut that holds the sniper rifle and ammo galore, jump on the rock that doesn't have any vegetation on it, go prone, and snipe everyone :)

I had to add that because that's how I did it the first time I played through.

ya i always wanted to do that but that means I gotta give up my shotgun. And I never give up a shotgun once acquired (my favorite gun). And you almost need the AK.

Well actually I'm talking about sniping with the AK because the precision rifle is too loud...no silencer. ;)
