i want to overclock my Q9300 .. link below. stock fan 780i sli motherboard and two 9800gtx's on a 780 watt PSU. what i want to know is what would the maximum SAFE speed i can OC this CPU to while not overloading my PSU and not overheating the CPU with its stock fan. i would like to boost it as much as possible since the quad core isnt supported by most games yet.

With a 95w processor I wouldn't oc with a stock fan.

As far as you can.
The FSB of the motherboard is going to be the limiting factor, probably around 450FSB max.

As far as you can.
The FSB of the motherboard is going to be the limiting factor, probably around 450FSB max.

With a 95w processor I wouldn't oc with a stock fan.muirplayer

WTF? He isn't going to run into any thermal problems since he will be topping out around 3.4ghz.

im also worried about the PSU since my SLI gpu's rack up a lot of watts, or should i not worry?

i havnt overclocked anything before so get me a little help here, what do you reccomend i OC it to 2.6 2.7? upto 3? ( not sure with this fan thatd be too good) i really dont want to risk messing anything up so i dont want to push it to its max, so please reccomend a safe place.

Thats almost impossible to determine, everyone will get a slightly different overclock. Anyone that tells you it will go to "xxx amount of speed" is just being optimistic. In reality its all up to you and how good the components are. Use common sense and don't go for the absoleute highest possible overclock and things should be ok.
