It has 4 +12V rails with 18A on each one, but considering my specs I'm not sure if I'd be able to run one.

NOTE: I'm getting it in 6 months so maybe they'll improve performance and power consumption-wise.

I really wouldn't risk it. I also wouldn't get a gtx 480, there's hardly any value for your money, it doesn't perform all that well, costs HEAPS, it goes up to 95 degrees when under load and uses a lot of power. NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY, get a 5870 instead, or get a 4870 x2, i know that churns through power and heat too, but at least you get ridiculous value for the money.

During all the benchmarks i have seen the GTX 480 Regularly uses over 400 watts of power so i would say no 600 watts would not be enough.

not worth the upgrade then man.

if you REALLY must a 470 but you will still be waiting bloody ages a) pre orders will start next month and b) there will be a short supply of trust brand gpu's (evga, bfg, xfx have already made that very clear) zotac and gigabyte have enough to say that it wont bother them though.

My advice is.... go ATI... and if you are that set on Nvidia... just wait. Don't throw your money away.

Wait for a GTX 475 or such. I prefer Nvidia too... but unless Nvidia puts out a better card soon then I'm going ATI for my next card.

I just cant understand why.I have been back and forth between Nvidia and Ati the last card i had was 260gtx and loved it and now i love my 5850.There is no reason to stick with only 1 brands.Just buy whichever gives you more bang for your money.

no 475. just the 460, 495 (if they make one) and the gts 430 (rebadged 9800gtx+), gts 440 (gtx 260), gts 450 (gtx 275)

JUST DON'T GET A GTX 4**, THEY'RE NOT WORTH IT!!!!! Just get a 5870 which has easily comparable performance to the gtx 480 and costs waaaay less, uses less power and makes no noise.

You should never prefer a company over another in the computer business.

Just deal with the fact that Nvidia doesn't have the best value at the moment, because a brand isn't worth wasting your money on if there is a better alternative.

Ati and Nvidia have been going back and forth for a very long time. You just can't choose one company.

are you not happy with your performance with the GTX 260? That's still a very nice card for the resolution you play at and willbe for a while. If you really want an Nvidia card then wait a bit for the next versions of the Fermi or the next gen. Your card is good and heck, you could get a 2nd with a new PSU and it will be a GREAT performer for a while. DX11 is cool...but i don't see a big rush to get there, especially as the console market is going to hold that back a bit due to multiplats. Just hang in there man, don't throw that money out the door

Wait it out. Im hoping that nvidia can release second generation 400 cards that are less power hungry and less hot and relatively better priced. But then again ATI by that time will probably already getting ready to release the 6000s series.

you gotta be pretty foolish to buy one of those new nvidia cards right now....there's no need for that power and you pay a premium to have that power now. just wait a year for a cheaper better version of it....

for that res, a 480 would be stupid. Costs too much, runs too hot and uses too much power. Get a 5850 or a GTX 275 then OC the pants off of which ever one you chose.

Again, I'm not going to buy one of those right now, I'll wait 6-7 months, I can't even afford them at this point.

Dude, get a 5850 or maybe a 285. No need for the 480 if you intend to play at that res.

You can run a GTX 480 on a 600w psu, the GTX 480 only uses 250w by itself and only needs a psu that has 42A on the 12v rail/s. It can be done.
