I have a 7900GTX. I don't know when this problem started happening, but sometimes a polygon vertex shoots across the screen, causing the polygon to be completely deformed. If I look away from the polygon, it goes away. I don't know how to describe the problem, except by thinking of this equation:

f(x) = 1 / x

If you know what that graph looks like, that's what the polygons are sometimes doing, shooting off the screen just like that.

I updated the drivers and it didn't solve the problem. Does anyone know what's wrong? Do I have to buy a new video card?

I think i know what your talking about and i bet that it is from heat. I have the 79GT and if it gets abovve 75-80C i start see horrible artifacts that can cover the screen nearly. RivaTuner has helpped out alot but still doesnt quite do it sometimes.

yeah those are just artifacts from your GPU caused by either heat, or bad capacitors. I would say heat is the most likely cause though. I did have a buddy that had a 7950GT and when he first switched to Vista, it was artifacting like crazy, however a vista patch fixed it.

Try to use atemp monitoring program such as ATI-Tool and see whats the avg you are getting for your GPU at idle and loading.
This will clear things up to you, if this caused by heat or something else

I monitored the GPU and it goes no higher than 45C... no way it could be the heat, right?

Sometimes reinstalling drivers fixes the issue.

How can you possibly have temps that cool. Mine idles around 50 but at full load goes up to 75-80C or so. Make sure you use speedfan and go into a game that pushes your card hard and play it for a while and then log out and look at the chart to see the peak temp of the last 15min. The card drops like 20C in a minute so you need something that can show you during gameplay.
