I don't want to come off as cocky, but I know I'm a fairly good Starcraft player and I've been in the beta for about a month now and I've been playing it practically every day since. Anyways, I've developed a lot of strategies and play styles that I'd be willing to share with those who are new and that need help with the beta. There's been a lot of changes so and I've been keeping track with all of it, so I'd be willing to fill anyone in on any questions they might have or if someone would like to post their favorite strategy and I could comment on it and offer advice to improve.

If anyone would like some help, you could add my xfire or sc2 id, both are in my sig.

Yeah, I've been checking every 10 minutes to see if the update has been finished.. I mean what an inconvenienttime to start.. but all that to say is I have no idea when it'll be finished. Soon hopefully, and I hope the update isn't too big so that it doesn't take too long to download..

and yes, I do have a mic, mind if i ask what level you're in and what standings you currently hold on the ladder?

I'm ranked 17th Gold 2v2 with one partner, I think.. 30 something Gold 2v2 with another, Copper 2v2 with a random friend and in random 2v2's in ranked 7th Silver in 8th Division :D

Yes, my advice to those starting out is to play a few custom games to at least get a hang of the game until you start doing your placement matches so that you don't mess up your placement in the ladder and in which league. It takes a while to go from copper -> silver, silver -> gold and etc. Here's what I've noticed when doing the placement matches, sometimes it depends on the league you're placed in and the score you can get:
0/5, 1/4 = copper
1/4, 2/3 = bronze
2/3, 3/2 = Silver
4/1, 5/0 = gold
5/0 = platinum

As you can tell, I put 5/0 as a possible gold standing.. you would think that doing perfect and winning all five placement matches would grant you platinum right? well apparently no, I've gone 5/0 with a friend of mine and we ended up being place in gold, though we were in the top 20.

ok.

answer me this, smarty pants.

As protoss, how do you counter large zerg rushes without being a total noob and building a wall of photon cannons

protoss units are way more expensive but they don't kill quickly and a few zerglings can kill pretty much anything

zerg just wipe everything out en masse

Alright, well if you're talking LARGE rushes.. then that means enough time has passed for you to at least have 3,4 zealots.. if this isn't enough, then you can always use your probes to fight as well. As for 6 ling rushes, as soon as you see it, use your probes to fight them, if you're constantly producing probes from the start of the match, you'll only loose 3, max 4 probes killing off that 6 ling rush. Don't underestimate your drones, I've fended off a 2 zlot rush with 16 drones before, though i lost 10 of my drones. Anyways, all that to say, is if you're talking a large scale rush.. well then it isn't really a rush.. you should have units to defend at that point, as well if you're talking 2v2s, you can always ask your partner to help out.

Also, a huge mistake you can make towards the early stages of your match is to create a forge and cannons, they're too expensive and I don't really believe in stationary defense for any race. Having a mobile army beats turtling with stationary defense any day. The easiest enemies to defeat are those who turtle.

That's actually not true. I've gone 4/1 in 1 vs 1 and I got put in Silver rank 16. It also depends on how you answer the first 3 questions of whether you are new , average or pro. I put new.

I've been having some problems with Humans who go straight to drop ships and drop a boat load of marines to kill my drones early in game. Especially in 2 vs 2 and both terrain players combine to drop on me.

Sup man. I recently got the beta myself, about a week ago, but I havn't played it all to much (~15-20games). Doing pretty well and got into the bronze leauge but one thing I have problem with is when I play zerg, as I often do, I often get rushed by the gateway chronoing zealot rushes. I can have up to 4 zels on me by the time I get my first few lings out. Without the ability to counter with a wall how can a zerg player, trying to focus on strong econ, counter other races rushes. Damn protoss.

BTW i'm DaZerg.infests Add me when its back on and i'll do the same.

Hey, I'm pretty decent at StarCraft 1, but can be considered a beginner at SC2 because I am not use to the "feel" and strategies of SC2. I usually play on weekends when I'm free and I'd like to improve. If you can, I am: vindktiv.bill Also, if anyone else wants to play with me then I would definitely be up. I am a Bronze League player with (what I think to be) pretty decent micro and macro. I honestly don't mind getting absolutely destroyed, because getting destroyed over and over again is how you improve.

Alright, well an obvious way to help prevent this would be to create an engineering bay early on and a few turrets around your economy. That way they'll hold back on dropping right on top of you. However, if they already have medivacs, that means you're a ways into the match which means you should have a relative army yourself. If you're getting dropped on by a terran player and all you have are drones, then you need to reconsider your build order and try and work on getting up your army quicker.

Alright, well fortunately this is a easily preventable especially if you're playing zerg. You simply just need to scout the map with zerglings. It would really help if you upgraded your zerlings to make them faster, that way, if you have the map scouted, you'll see when they make a pylon, which is they get a pylon in, they can start warping in the zealots to your base. So, just scout the map and once you see that they're going for the proxy (this is when a toss play creates pylons close to your base and warps in units), just take out the pylon and chances are they'll try to continue to make pylons.. don't bother with this, just go to his base and counter. Chances are he's still focusing on getting that proxy up, but by the time he does, you're already in his base, he'll try to warp in units and you'll just take em out as they're warping and hopefully they'll gg.

Sure, I wouldn't mind helping you out in game this weekend. You should try joining a custom game though because these don't effect your standings in the ladder so it's the best way to practice in my opinion. If you'd like we could just custom 1v1 vs each other and practice if that sounds alright with you.
