Well, they do say they want to reach and agreement with Steam (possibly just to flip them the bird). 2.5 months to solve their spat before release though!
I'm shocked at the amount of people (on other sites and such) saying how they're not going to buy the game. As a Battlefield fan, this is the biggest game since BF2... I'm amazed that anyone would miss out on it just because it's not on their favourite digital distribution platform. I ordered it on D2D for ~$45 a few months ago... I'm ready for this game :D
It's because Valve's policy is to have DLC for a game also available through Steam, than a third party's own portal. Which is what EA has been doing for a long while now. Anyway it's not new news.
Not a big deal since I already have the physical copy pre-ordered. Never saw the big deal in only ordering off steam. I only order from them when they have their huge sales.

Who cares. Steam..Origin..Comrad (or whatever D2D uses)... they're all just a mouse click away. If your so OCD that you need your games in one area then you have bigger problems.

bah! Theyre just saying that so they dont have to look like the bad guys. 99% likely is that they just don't want it on steam, period. They have Origin and theyre going to need every single big title they have to get people to use it.
I don't mind, honestly. Granted, I don't trust EA half as much as I trust Valve, but EA has made it clear they still highly value the PC market and theyre not going to alienate us if they can help it.
i dont really care. i just got dead space 2 for preordering it from origin (for free :P). this is my 2nd DD account, so i guess im not overwhelmed like the ppl who have GOG, D2D, amazon, etc. accounts.

I don't care personally. Origins is a really neat system itself. People need to expand beyond Steam. If you want all of your games under a single system, get a console.

I could careless to be honest. It's just everyone is like, OMG, must have it on Steam. BF3 not being Steam won't stop me from playing one of the best games this year.

EA has said that BF3 will be available in ALL of the OTHER Digital Platforms APART from Origin, but that Steam didn't come to an agreement with them. ON TOPIC: does anybody know: if I get the physical copy, do I still need to use Origin?

No loss to me if people are so casual with Battlefield that they cant step out of their steam comfort zone to buy the game. The game will be much better without people like that.

I like STEAM but it doesn't control my gaming. As for the icon, I was more referring to the actual icon on Steam. I wish it would create a BANNER like the Steam games...
I loved the past Battlefields, but this one looks no different then any other consolefied FPS. i may have gotten it if I was caught in the moment while in steam, but no way in hell would I sign up for a whole new service to play it.

current opinion was that it's the way EA does dlc. it's kind of stupid, and a pita with Steam (i.e. BFBC2 Vietnam, etc). starting sometime this year, the instant EA releases new dlc for a game under the new policies, it instantly throws the game into non-compliance and gets it pulled from steam.
