So I try to log in to Ubisoft's server so I can play a little Heroes VI and it tells me that its services are currently unavailable, try again later. Right. So I bought a game that, had it not had Ubisoft's inglorious DRM, I would now be able to play instead of b1tching here on Gamespot's forums.

And why am I b1tching on these forums, you ask? Because Ubisoft's forums appear to be down. Yes, they're down until Jan. 9, when their new forums will be up. They couldn't have kept their old forums up for people to access via a redirect while building the new forums. No, they had to take the whole thing down and just make their increasingly irate customers wait. Awesome way to treat us, Ubisoft. I know I will be rushing to buy your next product.

Well after reading about Ubsoft's new stance towards PC gamers, I can safely assure you I will never buy one of their PC products again. FIGHT THE POWER!

Yep it's down alright, but what I'm wondering is why are you " b1tching on these forums " instead of playing the game anyway? it works in offline mode, like any Ubi game (Anno 2070 has certain features missing) the only thing that really affects you if you're playing the campaign is the lack of overpowered weapons, they get disabled (dynasty weapons).

So if Ubisoft releases a great game next year you won't buy it, just because you're mad at them? Makes you look like a grumpy baby.

Very funny, too bad that funny thing has nothing to do with reality, AC 2's been patch to not work like that and AC: B and Rev weren't designed to run purely online from the start.

Tell him to press that little big hard to miss PLAY button down on the right next time, it'll be even more funny.

I was looking forward to iL2 Cliffs of Dover. I still haven't bought it and it is very doubtful that I will. I haven't bought a new Ubisoft game in 3 years I believe it is. The way they treat me as a PC gamer is without a doubt, the worst of any gaming company I have bought games from. They can kiss my rosy red rear end. They will not get another penny from me.

Uplay is down...I don't even know why I'm bothering, you were clueless from the start and that's where it ended, you didn't find salvation on the way, you're still at that point, pure ignorance, no idea why you had the need to make stuff up.

Just so you don't go to sleep clueless and ignorant.

Being online on Uplay does two things only, uplods your save on the cloud and gives you access to achievements, three actually, but that is dependand on actually having an internet connection, multiplayer.

Danieldust:

Yeah, about playing the game in off-line mode...

I saved my game in online mode and Ubisoft -- in its neverending mission to quash every last pirate and eliminate every last customer -- has decided to not make games saved while in online mode available in off-line mode. So, how am I supposed to continue playing in off-line mode?

I'm sure your next piece of advice is, "Oh, stop b1tching and just start a new game!". Brilliant. You should work for Ubisoft as you seem to think the same way as people there.

I have no next advice because I don't understand how you don't have saves on your computer when every Ubi games makes both local and online saves, no exception. I would never say that you should start a new campaign, that is just stupid, just as this impossible situation you're describing. As for working for Ubisoft, I'd love to, sadly they have the most idiotic customers you can find in gaming nowadays, can't deal with that.

I am not into Assassin's Creed. Planes, trains and automobiles (though I haven't raced NASCAR Racing 2003 for some time now) are the kinds of games I prefer to play now, though you can toss in a sub or two now and then. I am still waiting on former RSE level designer John Sonedecker to release a decent FPS that he helped use to create the Tac-Sim genre that Ubi completely threw out with the bathwater.

I remember hearing a while back how the DRM was to stop pirates and Ubisoft was having server issues so anyone who legally bought the game couldn't play and the pirates could. Talk about irony!

No he's right. For some reason any saved data that you have saved online is only accessible online. I started the Necromancer Campaign the other day and have only played it online. Then this happened a couple days ago and i couldnt access my save game files in offline mode. Same goes for right now, I cant access them due to their servers being down.

I don't agree. The Assassins Creed Series is awesome. The TinTin game is a fun platformer and I've heard good things about the new Heroes (haven't played it myself)

Anno series, AC series, Heroes of Might and Magic series, Prince of Persia (the latest one is the best they ever made), Conviction is yet again one of the best SC games they made, Settlers series is a constant stream of awesome, really, mediocrity? the only two mediocre things I see related to Ubisoft are 1 the sales, they get pirated like hell on both PC and 360 and 2 a game you just mentioned Rayman Origins, that series has been worse with every release.

Settlers and Anno haven't really played so can't argue, these and HOMM are the only pc exclusives listed btw. Ac is better on consoles, your lieing if you think different HOMM has been going downhill PoP dont play SC is an action game now, getting worse with each release imho.

The difference, of course, being that SWTOR is an online-only game. I would expect not to be able to play an online-only game if that game's servers go down. Why should I be unable to properly play a single-player game when the company's servers go down?

[QUOTE="FelipeInside"][QUOTE="Shryke888"] Sure, that occured to me. But tell me why I should care what the reason is behind why I cannot play a game that I purchased, a game that I would normally be able to play had the suits at Ubisoft been a little less paranoid and little more customer-focused?

Uhhhh.... they are doing Server Maintenance on SWTOR and I can't play for the WHOLE AFTERNOON. Watch me go to GS Forums and cry about it. Get over it already, just go play another game or do something else until they put the servers back up.

The difference, of course, being that SWTOR is an online-only game. I would expect not to be able to play an online-only game if that game's servers go down. Why should I be unable to properly play a single-player game when the company's servers go down?

Cause the DRM requires you to be online, simple as that. You either accept their DRM (and accept that their servers might be down for maintenance or upgrades), or you don't buy the game. Simple again. Mind you that their servers are up 99% of the time. I played through the whole campaign without an issue. BUT, like you said, they are upgrading so it's not an easy quick maintenance schedule.
