video card onboards are garbadge. i highly recommend getting yourself the following in tandem for best effect: some $150 monitor and then an hd 2400xt/pro (on newegg for $25 you will see a huge difference)
not true you see compaq has a nasty habit of hiding pc issues for the sake of quality base specs everyone looks for. that cpu and memory are solid for example (for a storebought) and he has a 300watt psu making a 4770 impossible. im guessing he (like my friend with a similar storebought) has a pci card slot for his gpu. and luckily no matter what im right b/c hd 2400 comes in all formats and a $150 monitor would make a great couple with it.
not true a good lcd today looks better than your average crt, the high quality crts if they are still in good order do look better though but most don'tget a video card, if the CRT is in good shape, it will look better than any LCD.

Well you definatly shouldn't spend 200 dollars and only get a 19" monitor, you can get a 22" 1080p (or even bigger if it is on sale) that is way decent
I would save up a few hundred more and get a HannsG 27.5 inch widescreen lcd that thing is a MONSTER getting mine in Feb though.HekynnI agree - I have the particular monitor that you speak of / and it is certainly the most significant upgrade you can make to your rig.
a 27'' monitor is cool and all but onboard video would make it almost useless. itd be like buying an entire house only to use 1 room. what was the point?
im sure the integrated gpu could run a decent resolution on the desktop, just not in games and then it will be great when he gets a decent gpu, monitors are used for long periods of time.a 27'' monitor is cool and all but onboard video would make it almost useless. itd be like buying an entire house only to use 1 room. what was the point?

having a sweet lcd 20"+ with widescreen display and vga, hmdi, serial, and a built in speaker set is sweet and all but if your pc cant make the most of it what was the point in getting it? I STILL have my old 16" IBM CRT as a second monitor (mostly so i can fullfill my duty as an admin at home for the other three computers on mah network). i can game on it just fine and have in the past i see no reason why he should trade up or split the funds to buy BOTH an entry level gpu and a smaller monitor.
Look up "win" in the dictionary and this might come up http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236052
Then get a gfx card to suit it.

First, I totally agree with you...Second, the OP'er stated his budget was at 200 dollars. This 27" monitor suggested, even after rebate is well outside of that.

This monitor would be total over kill for his current setup which he would never be able to run at it's native resolution. Someone earlier suggested that it's wise to save up and spend a bit more money on a quality monitor because it's a component that will last longer than most other pieces of your PC system and I agree.
200 dollars can buy either a very nice video card or monitor, but can be hard to do both without stretching your budget more.....This is a nice monitor for the price that you may want to consider if you go that direction....http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236051.....and a nice graphics card you can run most games at high setting that won't break the bank..... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102822
Or put your 200 toward a better GPU and save up for a monitor later... and you also would need to look at most likely upgrading your current PSU to better handle a more powerful GPU.
