yes it will run fear maxed out but what a waste on 8800ultra when this November the new nVidia GPU's are coming out and they will be GDDR4 and run cooler and be faster which will lower the prices of the 8 series.

The G92 series is ment to replace the 8800GTS (which it doesnt because the 8800GTS is still faster on some unconfirmed benchmarks). 8800GTX is still supposed to be the high-end card. Ultra though is a definate waste of money. Just get a GTX, its more than enough.

BTW can I have your old computer? Lol, that thing is only several months old.

ineed a card that is much more powerful than the 8800gtx.

all the dx10 cards are too weak for my tastes. I need something that will play crysis at 1900 x 1200 with 4aa and 16af. All other graphical settings at maximum. and i want 60fps.

when the most powerful dx10 cards can barely play the first game built from the ground up with dx10 in mind, then what does that tell you about the future of these cards?

i cant even imagine how they would be able to run project offset. That game has way more going on at one time. And what about Huxley? I want an mmo with 100 x 100 battles to actually look good. The screens they released look as good as gears and ut3. I highly doubt in the battlefield that we will actually see those visuals because these cards are too weak. The 8800 series struggles on stalker. Hell, a 8800gtx cant even max out lost planet. You have to overclock the thing to hell just to get over 30fps average

Swiftstrike what are you talking about? The G92 is supposed to be more powerful than the gtx. It supposedly has 1 teraflop of power as opposed to the gtx's 330 gigaflops. @ TC, you are wasting a lot of money there. Get a q6600 and overclock it, since it only costs 266 and is almost as good, even better if overclocked. There is no such thing as quad sli with anything but the 7950gx2, and you don't even need two 8800s. Just get the cheapest 8800gtx you can find, NOT ULTRA. You only need 2 gigs of ram, and 1 kw psu is a waste. Just get the 700w OCZ. For motherboard get a p35, 650i, or a 680i. And get everything from newegg.com

Oh wow, I didn't even see your old computer. Just drop in an 8800 and a new power supply if needed and you are set for quite some time.

i really wish that the g92 will replace the 8800 ultra as the new kind of graphics cards, but i doubt it. all signs point to a new budget dx10 card

Why only the 7950 gx2 Quad Sli?

Cracker__Jack

because that card was a dual video card by design. They made the sli option with that card and it turned into quad sli because they only had to do 2 cards in reality. Do you know how difficult/impracticle it would be to have 4 single video cards in sli? Not to mention that even if it was possible it would be inefficent and too expensive.

Just imagine what the mobo what look like. And how the hell would you cool it? and you would need something like a 2000 watt power supply. ext.....

many complications with quad sli

GTX has 4 cores, which is probably what he was talking about. GTS has 3 cores (one was deactivated). Ultra has some overclocking done by nvidia, which for $100, I would do you for you lol.

well,

lets remember that the ultra has much more overclocking potential. Its still not worth $100 though.

Yeah, its true that the G92 that is being released in november is a midrange card. Hell, its 256 bit rather than the 8800 GTS which is 320 Bit. This has been confirmed by Nvidia.

Regardless, a new flagship card might arrive later this year or early 2008. Who knows.

WOW. you ever stop and think about how a game such as CRYSIS would be able to run on graphical components that are still in theory? meaning THEY DON'T EXIST. An 8800 GTX will be able to run crysis max or near it when it comes out.

Isn't the upcoming ATI/AMD tech capable of supporting 4 card crossfire setup or is it just three?

EDIT: Hmmmm. Maybe this is what I was thinking of.

Crossfire already supports 3 card setups. 2 for gfx and one for physics. You can also do 1 and 1 as opposed to 2 for gfx.

pretty sure thats only a DEV thing, as no games can utilise that. Crossfire for physics is as effective as PhysX with games until Havok finalise their HavokFX SDK for developers, and developers incorporate it into their game builds. hopefully sometime next year.

To the TC get the 6600 with the G0 stepping and save 700 bucks then use that money for the stacker 830 reaper ocz memory, zelman 9700 to get 3.2 or higher GHz (if you want higher speeds get the freezone). As for the 8800 ultra that's a waste of money imo the 8800gtx works fine if you are going for bragging rights then 2gigs bench faster than 4. If you can wait I will have some 8800gtx's oc'd faster than ultra speed for sale when the 9800gtx drops. As for the power supply I only trust power and cooling the 750 is better than others 1kw and it's cheaper.

Wait - Quad SLI 8800 Ultras? As in FOUR 8800 Ultra in SLi? If so - MADNESS!

Or as in the 7950 GX2?
