I'm thinking maybe Fallout and System Shock 2. I was a console guy throughout the 90s (except for age of empires and half-life) so I didn't really get many of the classics of the system. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
fallout 1 & 2 are fantastic, as is system shock 2. planescape: torment, baldur's gate 1 & 2, all the lucasarts and sierra adventure games, x-com: ufo defense, master of magic (or the very similar age of wonders 1 & 2 if you'd rather play a more recent game), starcraft, warcraft 2, c&c series (get the decade collection to get them all), no one lives forever 1 & 2, alone in the dark (the original), diablo 1 & 2, betrayal at krondor, doom 1 & 2, quake 1 & 2, x-wing, tie fighter, wing commander 1-4, red baron, aces of the pacific, aces over europe, heroes of might & magic series (hom&m 3 is the best of the lot), magic carpet, descend 1 & 2, commanche maximum overkill, speedball, ultima 7, crusader: no regret, crusader: no remorse, and jagged alliance. that's all i can think of, but i'm sure there are plenty more. :P

By the way, please go get Star Control II right now if you are looking for older PC games that you shouldnt ignore. One of the greatest PC titles ever and it's free. There is the link to get you started. Make sure to read up on how to play while you are downloading/installing. By the way it is currently a self install as you download it.
Thanks to the responses. I actually totally forgot about mentioning Starcraft and D2 since I still play them I didn't think of them as sort of older games :)...I'll definitely pick up some of these titles!
