Sorry if this has been done before, but I have a laptop that isn't really old, but it sucks.

AMD Turion 64 x2 1.6 GHZ processor

NVIDIA Geforce Go 6150

2gb of RAM (upgraded)

Vista 32bit

Rates a whopping 2.4 on the Windows index thingy. So, what games would you recommend for this beast? I was hoping Rome Total War would run on it, so I might try that, as well as Star Craft, Age of Empires II, and maybe Rise of Nations.

Any genre is welcome (RTS, Role Playing, shooter, ect), but keep it to your best recommendations. A bunch of games adds up fast (even old ones). I'm on a budget, which is the reason I still have the old laptop (hopefully I'll have enough to do a new build, but not now).

Thanks!

I know you won't have any problems with Starcraft and Age of Empires II, as I was able to run those fine on my rather cheesy netbook (1GB memory and intergrated Intel graphics). I think you should be fine with Rise of Nations and Rome: Total War, but I haven't tried those on my netbook as of yet.

I have found that I can run most games that are four years or older on my netbook. Being your specs are a lot better than mine, you should be able to play some newer games as well.

What type of games are you looking for exactly? FPS, RTS, RPG?

Well, I think I have my strategy games covered for now, but more recommendations are always welcome, as I love strategy games. I suppose some RPG and FPS games would be good. Would CS:S work on my machine? Does it still have a following? And I was considering the Diablo II Chest or Baldur's Gate 2 for RPGs. Thoughts?

GoG.com (good old games) should give you options. Good prices as well.

Your laptop should be fine for running Diablo II and Baldur's Gate 2, and both games are exceptional. You should also have no problem running Counter Strike: Source either; I don't play it, but I think it still has a rather large following.

Some really good older RPG games:

  • Fallout 1 & 2
  • The Elder Scrolls 3-Morrowind
  • Star Wars_Knights of the Old Republic
  • The Elder Scrolls-Oblivion
  • Planescape-Torment
  • Deus EX
  • Neverwinter Nights
  • System Shock 2 (FPS/RPG)
  • Dungeon Siege

and some really good older FPS games:

  • any Half Life game
  • Call of Duty 1 and 2
  • Medal of Honor-Allied Assault + expansions
  • Return to Castle Wolfenstein
  • Far Cry (the original, not Far Cry 2)
  • Red Faction
  • System Shock 2 (again)
  • Aliens vs. Predator 1 & 2
  • Clive Barker's Undying
  • No One Lives Forever 1 & 2

Thanks for that list! One question: Where is a good website to download mods, or at least to find them? I'd want to try mods for Morrowind and Diablo, particularly. I already know where to find Total War mods. thanks!
