old processor upgrade

Ok my cousin has a really old processor (intel pentium d 915 2.8ghz). Can he upgrade to a Core 2 duo. and how do i find the FSB limit? Is it important?

if its on LGA 775 socket, yea theres room for upgrades

indeed we would need to know the motherboard or in the event this is a prebuilt (hp, acer, emachine, etc.) the model of the computer itself.. though often having a pentium D in a prebuilt is basically an upgradrs death sentence.

It's a socket 775 so yes; in the socket you can put a more modern C2D/Q2D but will it fire up correctly? - Probably not because, who in their right mind would assamble a PC made of a pentium D 915 along with a P3x/P4x (later series of motherboards) chipset motherboard?, Im almost positive he got a older P9xx motherboard, and that is not going to work with a modern s775 CPU. (well the P965 might work, but who got a D915 with that? ) The FSB dont matter if the board wont recognice the CPU. The FSB can be read thru CPU-Z ( CPUID ) What specific/exsact motherboard are we talking about?

i was sporting a pentium D in a cotre 2 contemporary (for the time) board for a while.. ran like butter next to my old hd 3650
