WHAT do you know! I have a Socket 939 motherboard also. I want to upgrade to the new motherboard but waiting for my new job and to save some money. I have a AMD Althon 64 X2 +4200 2.2 GHZ but some how it show on my AMD CPU info thats its been overclocked to 2.3 GHZ funny:? but anyway I still am using this as I do not have the money to upgrade. But I really like what I hear about the AMD 780g motherboard. But anyways what kind of slots does you motherboard have? is it PCI, AGP?
I still got my Socket 939 motherboard (that doesn't even support pcie x16) and I'm trying to milk it until it is worth nothing. So at the moment, I have a AMD Ahtlon 64 3700+ (one core). I'm thinging about upgrading to a Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (two cores). How long will this one keep me going for as far as video games? Also, on a sidenote, are there still going to be cards that don't support x16 and are pretty good...or is that the end of them? gluzygThe X2 4800+ comes in a 939 socket? I didn't know that....it would be a good improvement over your single core CPU and should do you well for a few more years. However, if you want something that'll do you well for 4, 5 or 6 years to come, then you'd want to upgrade to something that supports AM2/AM2+ CPUs and pick up a high end dual-core or a new Phenom II. Though, if you're just looking for something to tide you over for a few years, it'll be a good upgrade. If you're using AGP, then ATI has the best AGP card out there as listed by Neubauer4. My little brother was using a GeForce 7800GS AGP and he could play Company of Heroes at medium settings and he didn't have any problems playing HL2 based games....that card he had was one of the better GeForce AGPs, but ATI has better.
