Eye of the Beholder series, Lands of Lore series, Nox, Diablo series, Fallout series, Baldur's Gate I & II, Planetscape: Torment, Icewind Dale...
This are some of the oldschool best RPG games I believe...Â
Also:
 Even more old school:
Ahem... Ultima VIII - Pagan
Uplink is RPG also??
Mithrandir0x
The only reason I left Pagan out was that it didn't have the same feel of an Ultima game (but, then again, neither did Ascension...still, Pagan didn't exactly add much to the Guardian saga (at least, I didn't think so)).
And, from what I've read, Uplink has RPG elements (such as upgrading your system/programs and gaining XP which allows for more difficult missions).
Also, how could I forget System Shock 2Â

I have played both Ascension and Pagan back in the day. Pagan is still one of my favorite RPG's, I love how detailed the game world is.
My only wish is that it would run on newer PC's. =/

Between those games, which ones do you recommend the most?
Nowadays, since Ultima VII is posible to play, with some ports that use the game data. And even with greater resolution. Also check Dosbox, it's a good damn dos emulator that runs almost every game in Dos.
And for the games you're listing. I would choose Lands of Lore 1, where you feel the RPG old great type(in my opinion, also in Eye of the Beholder, that were the first ones to implement that game type but I first played LoL so...).
Revnant is a good game, one of those which started using 3D engine. It has a good story and it's gameplay is very funny and entertaining.
Nox, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate, The older Elder Scrolls games, Arx Fatalis, Stonekeep, Eye of the Beholder series, Dungeon Master, Might and magic series.zeus_gb
Dungeon Master rocks. I played that on my Atari ST man.Â
Â
I need to play Stonekeep. I remember thinking that it looked quite cool. For some reason I let harsh reviews that all bashed the oldschool RPG mechanics effect my judgement, which isn't like me at all.Â
A lot of good suggestions so far.
Not strictly RPG, more adventure, but definitely old school would be the Quest series by Sierra. REcently re-released in bundles you can get Space Quest, King's Quest, and Police Quest.
Planescape Torment - highly recommended :)
Other cross genre part RPG games
Deus Ex - RPG/FPS
Dungeon Keeper series - RPG/God sim/Dungeon builder - Evil Genius is similar but a more recent take on this type of game.
I play Eye of the Beholder on my Windows XP computer with the DOSBox 0.7. And it's working fine on most games i have tried and excellent on EOFB. The game can be quite challenging sometimes. I only played the second game when it was out on Amiga many years ago but thanks to this great emulator i can play it now and many more old school games. You should really try it out.

PS: This was NOT a commercial in any way or form! :P
Fallout 1 & 2
I really liked the Baldur's Gate series (including Icewind Dale) for the first week or so, but for some reason, turned into a chore to finish.
