"In a recent interview, Harald Seeley, Engine Business Manager for Crytek revealed that both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 of CryEngine 2 are coming along nicely and that they expect them to look visually on bar with the PC version's high quality settings.

"The surprising thing has been how well the consoles can perform visually, once this tailoring is in place. We expect the final outcome will result in games that look like they're running at high settings, or nearly high settings, on a PC", he said. "Actually, we found it as much or more challenging to address the memory limitations of the consoles when converting our current AI system, as we did while converting our rendering engine or physics system, which was not something you might have expected at the start."

Seeley then expressed his belief that developing such a high quality graphics engine for Playstation 3 has been too difficult that he doesn't expect other developers to do it. "there is no doubt that porting our engine to the PlayStation 3 is the more challenging of our two ongoing conversion projects, but that works to our advantage in the end. We feel certain we have the ability to get the most that is possible out of that platform, and therefore PS3 games which run on our engine in the future will definitely stand significantly apart from other games that don't." "

They are spending more time on the console opminizing then they should have done on the Pc  I mean near high setting, come on! a friggin console! and you know they will get the games running 98-99% of the time running 30fps or above. Even thou draw distances and things will be cut down like textures, objects more loading times. They need to go back and work on the PC's crytek engine and work out the bugs and smooth out the code some more.

Just remember that the console are running off a measly 512MB of RAM. Running Crysis on 512MB or RAM is just suicide of your PC...let alone the graphic memory required...gahh..

So what do we expect crytek to say? That consoles can only do medium settings?Do you think they will "depromote" the console versions?

COD4 running in 1024x600 on consoles and running fine in 1920x1200 on an 8800GTX is anough proof for me and should be for anybody that consoles are no way near a high end PC of today.

Even if the console versions have the same graphics, they will be severely cut down on other things like the draw distance, and the open environments and well we will see.

And since when was cryengine 2 = crysis anyways.

Forgot about that, ithought but i bet windows uses alot. But I remember alt tabbing and seeing crysis using up 1.3gigs of ram just by itself. Then you have to add on the 360/PS3 OS. They are so screwed.

People keep forgetting, that it's easier to optimize games for consoles, since they're working with less hardware configurations for consoles. Where as PCs, there are bunch of different hardware configurations. The game will most likely run 720p in both systems anyways... (1280 x 720 resolution). Perhaps even lower, like they did with Halo 3.

its easier to optimise for consoles cause they ALL have the asme hardware (ALL 360's have the same GPU and stuff, ALL PS3's have the same aswell)

but !@#$#*&@!*!$*%^$)!*^&#@&*$%@%&^!&*^!#%@$)(!)(*#$!&^@%^#$!^$@ crytek!!!!!

oh and even if they can get High, by the end of this year the GT200 cards from nvidia should have come out so i will be running it on Very high and get ATLEAST 30 FPS!!!

hahahahahahahahahaha

plus consoles are crap for first person shooters

No!

Consoles could not run crysis in its current form, they would require less destructable environments, less draw distance, less level design, less forest foliage ect...

Using the same engine does not mean a game requires the same technical specs, games can vary quite a bit despite using the same engine.

Example: Bioskock is graphically inferior to gears of war but has more objects destructable yet they both use the unreal engine 3

Here it is.

Ya I have also heard that PS3 doesnt upscale to 1080p but it does upscale to 720p when the res is below that.

What I dont get is what is going on with this whole upscaling that some people cant even notice. On the PC it is so immediately noticed.

I can't even play Mass Effect on my 360 without getting framerates issues like theres no tommorow. Good luck getting CryEngine 2 on 360/PS3 on high settings when even Unreal Engine 3 and CryEngine 1 put alot of pressure on these consoles.

Meanwhile... BioShock gets maxed out on Wii while achieving a blazing 75 frames per second

crysis is a well optimized game for PC, especially when compared to other games out there.

it's not a fair comparison as when optimizing for console they are only optimizing for one specific combination ofhardware therefore can dedicate resources and get a great result where PC they have to acount for many different types of GPU's and CPU's and different amounts of RAM, speeds and all those things...

Even if it might not be as high as graphics on consoles, thats where the money is being made with games and I'm sure they know that.

Optimisation and performance improvements are A LOT easier to achieve when you're coding for a specific set of hardware.

It's a bit hard to scale performance with the amount of detail Crysis has over a huge range of GPU's, CPU's and RAM configurations (let alone software differences).

I guess the optimisation process is easier when on a specific piece of hardware but still with hardly any RAM I can't see Crysis running at near high settings.

Xbox360 has 512MB of DDR3 at 700MHz i bileve and the PS3 as 256 MB of XDR Ram running at like 3 or 3.2GHz I think the speed of the ram on the PS3 makes up for the fact that it has less

EDIT:1Ok well i found that the XDR Ram on the PS3 dosent run at 3GHz but i did find this

The Rambus XDR memory interface, capable of data rates of 3.2GHz to 8.0GHz, achieves data rate speeds that are an order of magnitude higher than today's mainstream memory systems while utilizing fewer DRAMs and fewer controller pins. FlexIO processor buses are capable of running up to 8.0GHz data rates providing bandwidth more than four times faster than best-of-class processor buses available today.

They will probably have to severely reduce the draw distance in the console ports.

I have little doubt that the PC versions will look better than the console counter parts (especially as we get more faster GPU's such as R700 or GT-200), but the console versions won't look horrible. They'll look great, just not as great as the PC version.

The PS3 will probbly struggle a little more because it has a card like a 7800GTX and the 360 has a version of the 2900XT. yeah plus the 256MB of XDR on the ps3 to

It's not that simple.

I don't think the difference between the 360 and PS3 will be night and day. Although the 360 has the more powerful GPU (more a hyrbid between R580 and R600), it's setup totally differently to the PS3. The PS3 does have a more advanced CPU (with a lot more bandwidth than the 360's CPU, IIRC) and its GPU has quite a fast interconnect to the CPU.

I dunno, it's totally apples and oranges here.

Crysis isnt all that opminized.... after patches theres still loading issues(jump lag for some),AI freezing, performance issues in areas, and glitches. They did a "OK" job on it but it still needs work, they can opminize the game easily thats what min requirements are there for as a basis.
