Mobo - Honestly as long as it is from a good company it will work....beware however Nvidia chipsets tend to be slight unstable compared to other mobos ( P35 and P45 for example)...but it also has SLI...so that may or may not be worth it (varying from person to person)

PSU- Again...buy from a reliable company and it will work...I have an Antec 850 watt PSU that has served me pretty well ( I am sure there are more reliable brands out there)

GPU- right now the GTX280 is king for single slot solutions ...I have a 9800gx2 and it is nothing to write home about( I have heard that two 4850's in CF can out do it)...its essentially two 9800GTX's in SLI.

Definitly look into ATI graphics cards...ATI is bound to come out swinging this gen.

Get:

E8400
GA-X48-DS4 motherboard
2x HD4850s
Coolermaster Cm690 Dominato
2x1gb Corsair 800mhz RAM
Scythe ninja
320gb seagate barracuder
Corsair 650W
LG DVD-RW

All that comes to under £800 including shipping. Then you just have to order windows which will be around anouther 80 on top. Depending on weather you want vista or XP.

You maybe switch the motherboard up to a higher model and the RAM up to 1066mhz, but I didn't see the point. This rig will kill anything you throw at it tbh, and the C/F 4850s are better than the GTX 280 according to benchies.

It is true that the GTX280 is an insanely good card, albeit it does have premature drivers, but I don't think that would fit into your budget...

Thanks Dude You've Deffinetly helped Me Pick My Gpu Im Gonna Go For The 280 And As For The Mobo Psu And Ram Somone Suggested this To Me Are they good

Does the mobo suport Sli.

Mobo: asus p5q pro, intel p45 chipset, £80

RAM: 2x2gb ddr2-1066, cl5, £60

Is this enough Ram For The Gpu.

And Does This Mobo Take this type of RAM With 64bit Vista home premium

It doesnt support SLI, only Nvidia chipsets do, so look @ the 780i. RAM has nothing to do with the GPU, so that should be fine, just make sure you get 64bit vista to use it. If you go for XP you won't need more than 2gig, 3gig if you're being picky.

And the 280 GTX is a let down so far tbh, C/F 4850s beat it by quite a bit. And it's cheaper.

Actualy they appear to be about on par. With the GTX 280 pushing out in front, seems I didn't look at my reviews properly :P. However the GTX 280 is £460, and the 2x 4850s only £260. It will push your price (assuming you go through my system, replacing the C/F board with a P45 one, they are similar prices) to over 1k.

EDIT: The 9800GX2 is around £320, and beats the GTX 280 for sure in some games, however some say that the GTX 280 gives more stable FPS, but this hasn't been proven.

Depending on what res you intend on playing will give us a better idea what GPU you should go for. What reselution do you play at?

Okay, I have a 20" so it's going to be 1600x1050. If I was you I'd ignore the GTX 280, it's mainly for the extreme res's. The C/F 4850 should easily be enough for a 20" and complete OVERKILL for a 17". With the money left over since with C/F 4850s it only costs about £900 with windows I'd buy this Syncmaster 20" It's an amazing panel, good stats and it's 8 bit colours.

YaY someone like mee! I'm going to be building my first PC when I'm 100% sure I can't cock anything up, and if I can that I can then fix it (so probably a couple of weeks more reading and reassuring myself). I've done weeks of research into parts for my budget (sub-£800 - I've allready got 1 8800GT and a 22" monitor - early treat) and this is what I think I'm going to go for:

Asus P5N-D 750i motherboard
Core 2 Duo E8400
Arctic Freezer 7 Pro
OCZ 4GB 800Mhz RAM
Coolermaster CM 690 Dominator
Seagate 500GB HDD 32Mb cache
Coolermaster RealPower 700W PSU
Another 8800GT for Sli

And I'll also put in the misellanious items, just because I read almost every review for each product lol

Optiarc DVD Drive
120mm Hiper case fan x3
Extra Value Thermal Compound (the cheapest around but it has very good reviews)

So this is what I'm looking at. Not meaning to hijak your thead or anything, more as just to point you to what I'm thinking of, and to share my hours of painstaking review-reading with!

I'll google it, give me a sec.

Looks like it's 19x10 which again should easily be covered by the 4850 C/Fs.

Well you need a graphics card lol. And I'd go for the Corsair PSU. The RAM is nice. HDD isn't bad, but I can't tell without the cache and RPM info. These prices seem very good, where you ordering from?

Very nice board actualy, just looked it up out of curiosity. It supports crossfire with 2 x16 lanes. Very nice board idd. Pretty nice system, did you decide what GPU to go with?

Also I'd go with the Q9450, it can easily overclock to the same speeds as the Q9550 saving you some cash, especialy since you have nice high frequancy RAM and a nice board.

EDIT: Can only take crossfire in 2 x8 lanes. If you want to go crossfire I really reccomend you go for an X48 board instead. It'll be a bit more pricey but you'll get alot more performance.

Also what is a good mobo that will accept sli and crossfire that will also fit in nicely with a gtx280 if i choose to get one thanks.
