I set the wrong setting in the B.I.O.S., now it won't turn on! How do I reset the B.I.O.S. settings WITHOUT removing the computer battery? The battery on that computer is out of reach for me. I'd have to take apart half of the inside in order to reach it. Please, I really need to find a way.

Check your motherboard manual, there will be a jumper that will reset everything to default.

All mother boards have a clear CMOS option. Check your mainboard manual for it _OR_ just remove the battery for a few seconds.

1 - No display comes up for me to press anything. The computer;'s fan just keeps going at max. and never slows. 2 - The B.I.O.S. settings is accessed by F10 on that comp.. So, is the Delete key like a universal method to get into the B.I.O.S.?

Please...where is the battery located? Is it on the motherboard? Everybody is saying the jumper is on the motherboard. I can see the battery, so if the battery is on the motherboard, and the jumper is, as well, then there is no way I'll reach the jumper. So where is the battery located on so I know which is a motherboard and which is not.

The jumper or button to clear the CMOS could be anywhere. Try reading the manual that came with your computer.

CellAnimation, please don't make fun of me. I made ONE setting. Big deal. I screwed up. Help me out, if you're so much smarter than me, instead of mocking me. I don't know what the motherboard is, and I can't tell it with the description of "big board". Just tell me if the battery is on the motherboard or not, so I know if that part of the internals is the motherboard or isn't.

Of course it is. Where would expect it to be? Inside the DVD drive? If you can see it you can remove it. If you're too lazy to move a few parts on a machine you screwed up how can we help you?

So the jumper is beside the battery? If so, I can't reach it. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TAKE APART THE COMPUTER, OKAY? Stop making fun of me. Will having the power cable unplugged from the back of the computer reset the bios settings if I leave it like this overnight?

TC - the motherboard/mainboard is the main board of your PC. The one that everything else plugs in to. The manufacturer for your PC would have a manual online if you didn't get 1 with your machine. This manual will have instructions on how to clear the CMOS.

No, to clear the CMOS you need to remove the battery or use the clear CMOS button/jumper on your PC. If you don't know how to do this get a friend who is more confident than you to do it.

Why doesn't just simply unplugging it clear the bios? I don't have friends, so I don't know who can fix it for me for free.

If you can't remove your case cover, what were you doing in your BIOS? Removing the cover from a PC is childs play.

I can remove the casing....I CAN'T REACH THE BATTERY. There are many internal components blocking the way. A LOT. Every computer I've opened before never had this many wires running through it.

Because the BIOS is stored in protected flash memory. Would you really like your BIOS settings to reset everytime the power went out or you unplugged the machine?

thats the whole point of the battery, to save your settings if you ever lose power or need to unplug your PC. If you wan' t you pc to get fixed their is no way around opening up your computer, its not that hard and its easy to learn if your willing. Just remember to always have some part of your skin touching the case to prevent you from generating a static shock and frying some of your components. Just take out the battery for a few minutes put it back in and hope that works.

The battery will go flat in maybe 5 years if that helps. Might be longer. Seriously what computer do you have? Maybe we can look up online and see where the clear CMOS button or jumper is?

I wish I could reach the battery. I know how to do it, it's just that computer has sooooooooo many things blocking the way, that it's impossible to do it without removing the video card, and some another thing, and so many other wires running above those 2 things. I just hate this! So what you guys are saying is that no matter how many days I keep the computer unplugged for, the cmos will not reset? It will remain saved?

Without you taking the time to tell us what computer you have how can we answer that? Some machines have jumpers some have buttons. But hey considering you don't want to tell anyone what computer you have (it must be hard trying to stay cool like this on a gaming forum - oh no I don't want people to know I own a Dell) sure go ahead and press the button.

Sure why not. I hope you took the time to read your manual to know if you have to press the button with the power cord in or out... oh wait you don't have a manual and no one is to know which PC you own. Good luck. :)

How big is the button supposed to be? I see the rubber looking button, which is a little thinner than the battery, but it's about a centimeter tall. The other button is metalic, and it's very, very skinny, and very short. But it looks button-y. I'm sorry, I don't have a camera to take a picture.

When i happend to me, It was years ago, I had to unplug the maiins, change a connector power up, got 5 beeps that signified the bios was reset, , then unplug again put te jumper back then restart and everything worked fine, booted into windows like nothing had happened. some systems have automatic bios recovery, but id rather be cautious that hasty, hope you solve your problem,

Let me tell you guys what my problem is, actually. I went into the bios. I set the video display to "on board". The video card is an Nvidia 8600 GT. So I thought, it will be fine, I'll just restart the computer, and then plug in the monitor into the processor socket for the VGA display so it can match the "on board" setting I made. But the problem is...when I restarted...it never...started. The fan just kept going on and on, and it never slowed down. So is there any way to fix that without even going into the battery stuff?
