I set the wrong setting in the B.I.O.S., now it won't turn on! How do I reset the B.I.O.S. settings WITHOUT removing the computer battery? The battery on that computer is out of reach for me. I'd have to take apart half of the inside in order to reach it. Please, I really need to find a way.Rain_of_Miami
Check your motherboard manual, there will be a jumper that will reset everything to default.
dont touch the battery, if you need to reinstall the bios you could lose the backup if you remove the batteryNeilCardiffPARDON? All removing the battery does is clear the CMOS of the screwed up settings.
The jumper or button to clear the CMOS could be anywhere. Try reading the manual that came with your computer.CellAnimation
lol he said his didnt come with one
Please...where is the battery located? Is it on the motherboardRain_of_MiamiOf course it is. Where would expect it to be? Inside the DVD drive? If you can see it you can remove it. If you're too lazy to move a few parts on a machine you screwed up how can we help you?

... yet he has access to the internet and can't even browse his manufacturers site? :roll:Will having the power cable unplugged from the back of the computer reset the bios settings if I leave it like this overnight?Rain_of_MiamiNo, to clear the CMOS you need to remove the battery or use the clear CMOS button/jumper on your PC. If you don't know how to do this get a friend who is more confident than you to do it.
So the jumper is beside the battery? If so, I can't reach it. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TAKE APART THE COMPUTER, OKAY? Stop making fun of me. Will having the power cable unplugged from the back of the computer reset the bios settings if I leave it like this overnight?Rain_of_MiamiIf you can't remove your case cover, what were you doing in your BIOS? Removing the cover from a PC is childs play.
Why doesn't just simply unplugging it clear the bios?Rain_of_MiamiBecause the BIOS is stored in protected flash memory. Would you really like your BIOS settings to reset everytime the power went out or you unplugged the machine?
Why doesn't just simply unplugging it clear the bios? I don't have friends, so I don't know who can fix it for me for free.Rain_of_Miamithats the whole point of the battery, to save your settings if you ever lose power or need to unplug your PC. If you wan' t you pc to get fixed their is no way around opening up your computer, its not that hard and its easy to learn if your willing. Just remember to always have some part of your skin touching the case to prevent you from generating a static shock and frying some of your components. Just take out the battery for a few minutes put it back in and hope that works.
if that's the case, would having the computer unplugged for a few days clear the settings?Rain_of_MiamiThe battery will go flat in maybe 5 years if that helps. Might be longer. Seriously what computer do you have? Maybe we can look up online and see where the clear CMOS button or jumper is?
impossible to do it without removing the video card, and some another thing, and so many other wires running above those 2 thingsRain_of_MiamiSo do that...
Oh my gosh! call, you said the jumper can also be a button? i think I see a button!!!!!! I see some round button-shaped thing right beside the battery. Should I use some sort of a plastic reach in order to push it? Or is that not the jumper?Rain_of_MiamiWithout you taking the time to tell us what computer you have how can we answer that? Some machines have jumpers some have buttons. But hey considering you don't want to tell anyone what computer you have (it must be hard trying to stay cool like this on a gaming forum - oh no I don't want people to know I own a Dell) sure go ahead and press the button.
Right above the button-shaped thing, it reads: "ROM RECOVERY". Then it shows the word "Buzzer". Is this the jumper button?Rain_of_MiamiSure why not. I hope you took the time to read your manual to know if you have to press the button with the power cord in or out... oh wait you don't have a manual and no one is to know which PC you own. Good luck. :)
K, what motherboard do you have, I'll look it up on the web?--Anna--
