I would say EYE Divine Cybermancy is the best indie to date for shooter genre for sure.

yeah, it looks good. best ever? we'll see. i havent tried it yet. Braid is hard to beat. and Johnathan Blow's next game "the witness" looks promissing

I have played a few indie games, not many, I haven't played E.Y.E yet. (though it is one we are gonna get two copies of, so my GF and I can play it co-op)

But I think the best one so far that I have played, hmm, Toss up between Zeno Clash (beat it, it was real fun, looking forward to sequel)

And Bastion (playing through it right now)

Both games have are very strong in traits that I value.. (one trait I value highly that others don't seem to care as much for especially on here is Soundtrack/music)

Both of those games have unique and beautifully written music, draws you into the game.

Zeno Clash had awesome fighting mechanics and had a strange beautiful fantasy punk world, and a pretty awesome story!

Bastion has some beautiful environments (in what appears to be a Steam/Fantasy punk world), and the way the tale is told is fantastic, love the narration!

Indie developers are the future of gaming. The big publishers are spending huge amounts of money for barely better games than indie teams on shoestring budgets these days. If you get a small team of passionate, talented people together, it really doesn't cost multiple millions of dollars to make a great, successful game. The big publishers are just bloated, wasteful, dinosaurs of the industry who think DRM and crap DLC is their ticket to big bucks.
