They cost a lot of money, but they have enough content to make them worth it usually. (When I say that, I'm saying it from experience with WoW and Lord of the Rings Online.)

Of course, online games are much better if you can find a good group of players to play with.

Most will say worth every penny. $15.00 isn't that much, if you like the game alot go for a longer subscription and you'll be paying less than 10bucks a month. You spend more than that on chewing gum.

I currently don't play MMO's, DL'ing the 14day trial for EQ2 though :)

If you are new to the MMO world, go with WoW.

Worth it.. but like BladeMaster said.. your best bet would have real life friends to tag along with you.

They just about all have free trials. Try a few, see if you enjoy playing them.

If you do enjoy playing them and want to take up a subscription, the monthly fee (which is about £13 even though it's $15 in USA - bastards!) is actually pretty light. If you play one hour per day, every day, that's around 30 hours per month - which is about 40p per hour.

If you play three hours a day, it's 13 pence per hour. Compare that with a single player game that lasts you ten hours and costs £25 which is about £2.50 per hour - then consider that you may need to buy three such games per month to remain as entertained through regular games as you would with the MMO. That's £75 with regular games vs £13 with the MMO.

Obviously on the flipside, you may only get to play two hours a week and then it's suddenly costing you almost £2 per hour - but the point is, how much you play determines how worthwhile it is as an expense, and the nature of MMOs is such that you play them a lot.

But how worthwhile it is is entirely down to how much you enjoy playing it, so check out those free trials.

MMORPG's are not games, simply because they are not designed with fun as the primary factor, but profit.

Thats just silly. The gaming industry is an industry. Profit is the intention of every game made, and if MMORPGs weren't fun for many people they wouldn't have so many subscribers.

No other companies aren't doing that as well, now let me go play the 3rd Guitar Hero in 2 years.
