Yes you can have a decent time on a 128k connection.
For shooters, I recommend Counterstrike or Team Fortress 2.
For MMOs, I recommend EVE Online or World of Warcraft; theyre the two most polished MMOs out there imo.
I dont play RPGs or RTSs online, though I hear good things about World in Conflict (RTS) and Neverwinter Nights (RPG)
ill throw guild wars out there as a plausible and active online rpg, along with diablo 2.
for fps i recommend a healthy dose of cs 1.6 and upon release battlefield heroes
for none genre exteel all the way as a great mech combat game that i dare say trumps gundam games 1000 to one and probably has a better player base too XD
Yeah all half-life based multiplayer games--Counte-Strike, Day of Defeat, Team Fortrest Classis, should run fine on you connection, just don't play on 32 player servers. :) If you are looking for a MMO Guild Wars is a good choice as it isn't really depenent on a fast connection, plus it is free to play. For RTS I would recomend Warcraft 3 or Starcraft. There are also a tone of free to play games, you've got lots of choice, though given your slow connection speed you should probably avoid any games that have really big downloads. Cause it will take you about 18 hours to download a gig of data.
