IF THE PICTURES SEEM BLURRY, IT'S CUZ THE NORMAL RES OF THE GAME IS 1280 BY 720, AND I'VE BLOWN IT UP TO 1920 BY 1200

So I just activated my founding members account for OnLive, and the first thing I did was try out Assassins Creed 2 and Dirt 2 demos. The interface was pretty awesome, and I can see the friends system becoming pretty nice. The interface is based on the "wall of videos" theme, and they use it to a pretty cool effect.

The prices. Well Assassins Creed 2 costs 40$ currently, and for that price the game will be available until at least 2013 (AKA, full access). For Arkham Asylum, it's 7$ for full access for 5 days, and 5$ for full access for 3 days. For Borderlands, 5 days is 9$, 3 days is 6$, and full verion is 30$. World of Goo is 7$ for 5 days, 5$ for 3 days, and 20$ for full access. UT3 is the same pricing as WoG.

The graphics. Well if you're expecting maximum graphics for Crysis, then look elsewhere. If you have decently powerful hardware, then look elsewhere. The games appear to be running at around medium, but I can't tell what resolution it is. You don't get a choice for the graphics settings. The FPS really isn't anything to write home about. Sometimes its smooth, sometimes its not. On the more graphically intensive parts, I've seen the FPS drop to probably around 15ish, with noticable jumps between frames. The internet lag is actually much less than you'd expect. I could barely tell that my game was being rendered at an outside data center. Of course, this is probably due to the fact that according to Wikipedia, the data center is in Santa Clara, CA. And I live within 5 miles of that area. I'm probably not the best person to ask for lag estimation.

On a sidenote, I was running the games with TF2 running in the background without any extra lag, and the RAM usage appears to be like 55 MB. The streaming tech is pretty cool.

This is my hardware if it makes any difference

Why do these pictures look worst then those posted by some other users in the last week or so? Something seems a bit off. Is this really the true graphical quality of onlive? If so then this absolutely horrible.

I don't know, I haven't seen the previous pictures. My monitor is 1920 by 1200, and I don't think OnLive lets you up the resolution, so that may be an issue.

Those screenshots look terrible, no offense though! I only see this for people who just want to play the latest games but have weak hardware and don't care how it looks. Most of us have decent rigs so a service like this is rather useless for us.

Don't worry about it! I agree too that the graphics suck. I wouldn't use this program normally, but I was testing stuff out.

Still, they proved me wrong. OnLive WORKS....just not as it was promised with maxed out games and amazing video quality. I mean you're pretty close to the main server HQ and it still ends up muddy. Imagine me playing all the way in New York City with basic DSL, probably be playing at 480p resolution! =P So you basically pay a small dollar amount to play a game for a certain period of time, meaning rent them? I guess that's okay, I mean, not a lot of PC games get demos so this is a nice way to try out the game without buying it full price. Still, I like collecting games so I don't see myself using this service but I'll keep an eye on it.

A system wars thread which had Onlive ingame pics

Yes its system wars link but I knew there was some big post where someone posted some in game pics they have. I think whats going on is the native resolution onlive streams is LOW in comparison to your 1080p display (I think onlive is a medium quality setting 720p resolution stream). Guess you are having the video stretched when you go fullscreen? I don't like onlive in anyway but as I said, your pictures to what was presented by others just seems off. Someone is correct but I don't feel like looking into it anymore. Hope that is a base for you waffles in your "testhing stuff out phase" People make some good statements through te gs forum on onlive both negative and good. I;ve seen about 19 onlive threads in the forums if you feel like looking some up.

It's really crazy how low resolution those screenshots are. I wasn't interested in Onlive anyway (Subscription fee AND individual game cost that is higher than retail? Nothnx.) but this is definitely killing what little curiosity about the system I had.

Yeah, the SW pics look pretty decent. They're also like a 1/3 of the number of pixels on my screen, so I think that's the problem on my side. I'm full screening the games on a huge monitor.

I just signed for the waiting list today, when should i expect to get it (also just to test, its free after all)

I'm definately not going to jump on the boat as I have all I need to max games, but hey, if the founding thing is free then why not test it.

@OP: Post the images in BMP format, I'd like to think that those SS are poorly compressed.

Wait, they actually offer World of Goo? Can't any computer made in the past decade run that without any issue at all?

This service really doesn't appeal to me. If you are already buying a PC its only going to cost you a small amount more to make it capable of gaming.

PNG is high quality as well.

I've been looking at screenshots all over and it all looks kinda like this. Wow these games aren't even running on high settings and then it has a rather low resolution!

people would be better off buying a game console i mean really this looks worse than some of the worst looking console games, at least with a console you can rent games.

Dunno what is it , but since with my 850$ 2.5 years old rig gaming PC playing AC2 at 1920x1200 max settings , 0 lag and i own the game on hard copy , means i can play it online or not , take it with me to install it on other PC etc etc..... I dont see why to sub on this..... low 720p settings are not what im looking for.....

What does the [56k] in the title of this thread mean? I never understood what it was for. Gamesterpheonix

It is a warning for dial up users that there are a lot of bandwidth heavy pictures in the topic and if they enter the topic they could be waiting a while for it to load. So whenever you see mentioned in the title it is usually to warn them about that (the 56k is the speed of a dial up modem). It may seem silly since DSL is wide spread these days but there are still a lot of people on dial up connections through out the world and it is just "good manners" to warn them.

As for onlive, I just find the whole thing totally pointless and hopefully it will die a quick death. If you want to play games but can't afford the PC hardware then buy a console it will produce vastly better graphics than those screenshots and you at least get to keep your games no matter what.

Oh yeah and Onlive is clearly NOT running games at max settings, If you check this video here :-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYU1sV8sHxU

You can clearly see the PC version with steam effects but the onlive version lacks these steam effects ....... hm talk about the "emperors new clothes".
