Starcraft 2 (maybe diablo 3) will be the only game I will be playing on Pc for a long time. I just want to know how Starcraft 2 will work on this. Will I be able to do 30fps on high settings during every kind of match?(2v2 3v3) I want a portable notebook where I can take anywhere, a powerful one which can power up all blizzard games, and after a lot of homework research. I chose to ask this question

Any kind of help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks! I am in college, but by homework I meant endless researching on the internet for the right notepad to buy... You are a psychic... Will su7300 suffice for high quality? Or should I get the i5 i7 version...

I am pretty hell-bent on m11x, but what really snaps me is Starcraft 2... An almost "omnipotent" notebook is a great deal, but I still have to consider whether this wiil make my starcraft experience well, just high quality would do... I just want high... How does your computer work for gaming? 30 fps and up all the way? RTS is the most cpu consuming genre I know...

I don't think that guy knows much about laptops or computers in general at all...

He said any GPU with a GB of RAM would work fine with the game... No... The "amount" of RAM is only a small part of performance...

He also said the guy would need to overclock his laptop CPU to play the game... Yeah that is a good idea, take an already hot laptop CPU with terrible cooling (when compared to desktop cooling) and make it even hotter... That will end well...

To OP, ignore yarharfiddledee's advice...

Actually the Alienware M11x does allow over clocking from the BIOS and it is included under warranty. I've had my Core 2 Duo M11x overclocked since the day I unpacked it without issue. Might as well get a little more performance for free. :)

Just remember you'll probably have to overclock when you're playing games, so that'll drain your battery life right quick.yarharfiddledee
Completely incorrect, the C2D M11x overclock actually runs at a lower voltage than the stock speed. So battery drain is negligible.

I am not saying he couldn't or shouldn't... Just that it will probably decline the life of the cpu... What are your temps by the way? My friend's m11x runs around ~45c idle and up to ~55-60 under load... And that is right away... If he plays games for an hour or two... He get temps near ~70c... And that is with NO overclock...

Wouldn't be fair for me to answer that at the moment, it's the middle of winter here. :)

Assuming the final game will be similarly demanding as the closed beta, I can tell you that you will be able to play the game with everything on High, except Shader, at 1366x768, no AA (not supported in beta) with 30-40 fps and occasional lag spikes.

Of course, this is assuming the game does not become more optimised since the closed beta.

So you got the m11x r1 or r2 with the i5 i7? It is really a hard choice for me... BTW I heard the warranty for m11x is great

2 hours straight... I doubt if I will ever sit in front of a notepad for 2 hours of gaming... Maybe yes... 70c is not that high for me actually, its just around the "warm" level for me...

I was wondering what it would be like during 3v3 matches... It is going to be hell for the m11x, watching all those waves of units swallowing any fps left in my sweet notepad...

C2D... Then it is an R1, I heard there is not a great improvement on the performance for R2, but R1 just have this impossible to keep clean cover which really annoys me... hummm... R1 or R2...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220739 I sugest this 14", Its very portable and it plays SC2 very well on high settings max screen resolution on BETA. However it is 14' unlike 11' from alienware. Thats the only con. after that it has a better Processor and it has disc tray so you can install your games if you want physical games. Personally i dislike alienware because their PC parts are cheap and yet they are very overpriced. Not so sure with laptops though.

I am not going to argue on that. U r absolutely right, almost all alienware product is overly priced. However, from my point of view the m11x is the ONLY thing alienware got with a decent peformance/price score.

I believe an i5 version of m11x is around that price range, but it is a great laptop from the look of it. Thx, but 14"...

m11x is not over-priced at all. Infact, its probably the very best laptop in terms of price-performance. At least out of those I found.

Still overpriced? So far I didn't find anything that is better than m11x... considering the price and the performance you get for it...
