It's especially great in multiplayer. Creating a co-op mission and then throwing it at a group of friends for you all to get through is addicting. However, as for the Cold War Crisis campaign...remember that mission where you have to escape into this forest, and the very next mission, you're the only survivor, regardless of how many of your other comrades also made it? And then you have to haul ass towards a beach before your fellow troops pull out, out across open land with hostile helicopters and soldiers about. It probably wouldn't be so bad if I had some company from the previous mission to lay down some cover fire, but no...and, thus, I can't comment on any later missions or the Resistance campaign.NamelessPlayer
That's not the resistance campaign, but that's a very unique mission, it's quite difficult I agree and maybe somewhat frustrating, but if it weren't that difficult the whole thing would fail. If you could shoot all the dudes it wouldn't be a soldier sim. It's not for everyone, sims aren't, but it does what it sets out to do.
I said at the beginning of that paragraph that it pertained to the Cold War Crisis campaign. I'm also not asking for a ton of firepower or anything like that, but I do want just a little assistance from some comrades who should have survived from the previous mission! On the flip side, more soldiers inherently means less stealth...but the feeling I get in OFP is that they're always watching you, just biding their time to plug you with bullets when you least expect it.That's not the resistance campaign, but that's a very unique mission, it's quite difficult I agree and maybe somewhat frustrating, but if it weren't that difficult the whole thing would fail. One of the best games for its time IMO. I enjoyed it through and through. It still has a space in my heart :D
As for teh sequel, ArmA isn't quite as good as OpF. But you can search gamespot for Operation Flashpoint 2 and see that Codemasters are working on it and the trailer looks amazing.
OFP is definitely the best combat simulator, period.
ArmA would be better than OFP but there are far too many bugs and it is a huge system hog.
If you want to upgrade OFP, get the ECP or FFUR mods. They update the textures and effects and make it look a lot better than the original build.
If you want the most challenging mission you will ever play on an FPS style game, download the "Abandoned Armies" mission from the OFP Editing Centre web site, that mission is awesome and takes about 24 hours of playing time to complete the single mission.
YMMV :)
