So I had to lower the price of my build a bit, but as far as the parts I am looking at, the only real downgrade that I made was 16gb of RAM to 8gb. So is this a good build, or am I overpaying for something/getting a crap piece?

$20 - DVD Burner
$90 - Corsair Carbide 400r case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139008
$220 - Intel i5 Haswell Non-K http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116898
$30 - Cooler Master Hyper 212 CPU Fan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065
$70 - Seagate Barracuda 1TB hdd http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148840
$70 - G.skill Ripjaw 8gb RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314
$130 - Gigabyte Intel 1150 mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128590
$65 - Seasonic PSU 620w http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096
$185 - Sapphire ATI HD 7870 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202025

Total: $880 (unless I messed up my math somewhere).

Do not plan on overclocking, so why pay more for a feature I won't use? I never overclocked my Phenom ii, so I doubt I will overclock this.

That still doesn't make sense because your paying extra for a Z87 motherboard (Z87's allow you to overclock so they cost more) + your buying an extra CPU cooler and yet you select a non-k processor

You saying you don't want to pay extra for features you don't need but thats kinda what your doing (extra CPU heatsink + Z87 motherboard). Thats why the user you quoted is confused (your 2/3rds of the way there in terms of overclocking which is confusing).

If you don't want to overclock then you can skip the Heatsink/drop the motherboard down a tad and try to find a discounted 7950 boost

Then why are you buying a $130 Z87 MOBO?

If you look good enough you will probably find sli capable MOBO's with other good specs for around $80 or maybe even less.

You wont need the 30$ cooler either.

Use those extra ~$80 to get a 7950 Boost or GTX760.

solid build, but the 7950 should be a few bux more, go for that if you can. Also definitely get the K version of that cpu if your going to keep it for more than 3 years. If less then it doesn't matter.

Suggestions: 1) Get a cheaper motherboard. Z87 are for overclocking and you won't be using it. 2) Don't buy a CPU cooler. Since you won't be overclocking the stock fan will be more than enough 3) As suggested, use the extra money to get a better GPU, like the 760 or 7950.

My AMD CPU cooler that came with my Phenom II 965 was pretty damn loud and broke within six months, so I assume Intel's cpu cooler is just as good, hence why I want a aftermarket CPU cooler. As for the motherboard, what is recommended?

The intel cooler on the 3000/4000 series CPU's is actually pretty decent (its pretty efficent and its not super loud). Its going to be rare for you to noticeable hear the fans (I don't hear mine unless im doing a stress test). If you get some artic silver 5 (its like $7-8) then the fan will never run above 40-50% during games

For motherboard get either a Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3 or a MSI H87-G43. With the money you saved (from dropping the cooler/motherboard) you can get a 7950boost

Then maybe my stock AMD cooler was busted from the start. It was louder than the replacement cooler.

no need for the 7950 boost, the regular ones OC like bats on steroids.  Just make sure the one you get is voltage unlocked.  Although for modest over clocks, even a voltage locked card will make little difference.  My 7970 oc'd to 1125mhz core, 1500mhz memory on stock voltage.  That OC is about 7% faster than a 7970 ghz.

Yeah I know. The reason why I said 7950 boost is because most of the regular 7950s are sold out in the USA (most sites only sell the 7950boost since they came out 8-9 months after the regular 7950, thus theres more stock). The 7950boost have been cut in price recently (they want to sell out there current stock before volanic island series arrives which is smart).

That's funny, since I can't hear my Hyper 212+ at all.

I suggest getting a i5 4570(if not oc) and gtx 760 instead of 7870. But if you want to go with 7870 you should get Myst Edition(Tahiti LE)

Do yourself a favor and get the K, overclock it! Extend your budget for a 7950, they are a great deal right now, and even if it drops in price again it would still be good deal.

No it won't. The max fan speed of the 212+ is 2000rpm and since it's a 120mm fan the sound is far less noticeable than the small fans found on stock coolers. There's also the fact that the larger heatsink means there is less heat for the fan to remove. It's certainly not silent but it will be better than stock.

This card really isn't that much more than the one you picked out and it's even cheaper if you use V.me via checkout. Seems like it would be a better deal especially since you'll get on the Gold tier for AMD rewards, and you get Crysis 3.

I just bought one for myself simply because it seems like a great deal, Couldn't hold out any longer for the 9970, and even then it's less then half of what it'll be.

Damn yeah thats an incredible deal ($180 after rebate with the V.me code). If I wasn't so scared of crossfire/games where a ltitle more demanding, I would defiently pair one of those up with my 7870xt
