orange box questions

i just bought the orange box today and it came with two discs. i put the second disc in and it came up with the page that says whats in it and it was just 4 random files with no purpose. does anyone know what this second disc is for?

also is there any way to speed up the damn download speed of steam? its soooo slow! why couldnt they have packaged all the files ready to be installed on the disc like they did with the first HL2 and you know.... EVERY OTHER DAMN GAME!

Hey sorry to tell you this but this is what happened to me at first and when I started the game up it wouldn't even load the first level. Okay here's what you need to do: Delete the content you've installed and get rid of the EP2 folder. Make it so that it was like you didn't install it. Then reinstall the game. During the installation you are supposed to be prompted with the 2nd disc as you would normally expect after using the first one. Make sure this happens. Then once this is finished it should only take a few minutes to get the update off steam, not hours. This happened to me don't freak out because I got it working and it will work for you too. WB

Is the orange box worth getting if you havn't played the previous half life titles? Will Half Life 2 and Eps 1 & 2 be confusing? or does portal and TF2 speak for itself?

the only previous title (in regards to storyline) to hl2 is half-life. tf2 is not part of the half-life universe, and portal is an off-shoot of hl universe (meaning you don't need to know background story to know what's going on in portal). and it's not too difficult to understand what's going on in hl2 even if you have not played half-life. but if you get confused, google half-life storyline and read about it. or buy the game (only $10). the orange box is definitely worth getting.

Possibly the best value package you will ever buy. I think you should have a crack a Half-Life 1 though, its old but its still one of the best and no one can argue with that.

and fireandcloud PLAY HL1 lol that is one of the the best games ever. graphics arent the best but the gameplay and storyline are simply amazing. once i started that game i couldnt stop playing till i finished. and yes id say get the orange box but take my advice play HL1 first before you start HL2. HL2 might be sorta confusing concerning certain story elements if u didnt play HL1. portal is great fun and TF2, although i havent played online yet, seems like a very solid game.

Wow that looks like a really good computer. I'm going to buy a new one myself soon. I'm really relieved the game is working now. It lagged horribly on my computer in certain parts. I still loved most of it though.

1.2 GHz.

576 RAM

Windows 2K.

GeforceFX 5700.

i love being able to run everything on the orange box maxed. it looks great and runs beautifully. i only get lag online (i know u can only get lag online). its becuase of my internet. ive always had sort of weak connections (im on wireless because the router is too far from my comp). maybe its because my computer was on for a few days when i ran a server and i had been downloading music earlier. anyone have any tips on improving internet speed? at least on games

Valve's disc games are actually safer. They work just like buying the game online but then you have the game on a disc too. You don't even need to use the discs if you don't want. Just enter the cd-keys on your Steam account and it will download the game just like buying the game online. The problem is the big download size and sometimes Steam servers can be really slow.

Biggest loser, you sure need a new PC.

ya cds are quicker for install for the same price and then i have the disc. sure they do scratch but i put them in install and let them sit in the box nothing is gunna happen to them you know.

and ya portal is sooooo sick. im on level 18 right now played up to there in one night haha i think im gunna go play that now haha
