Gothic 3 is probably the closest thing to Oblivion that's been released somewhat recently in that it also has an open world. It's third person perspective though, I can't recall if there's an option to play it in first person. You'll probably enjoy it if you liked Oblivion. Neverwinter Nights 2 is also a great RPG, but it's really nothing like Oblivion (it's story-driven, and you control a party not a single character.)
I second Dark Messiah of Might & Magic. It's not a huge, intricate game like Oblivion, but it is a first-person RPG with some really solid and fun combat. Like many people, I definitely believe it should have received a higher score than GS gave it. You should also play Daggerfall if you haven't already. It's a great game, and it will give you a whole new appreciation of The Elder Scrolls series.
