Sacred Gold (Sacred 1 + expansion) for me at least is as fun as Diablo and recently Torchlight, TQ not so much it's actually the worst among the H&S games I played, it just isn't fun to do the same thing over and over and over again, in short killing, but maybe you'll like it.

There's always Diablo II. Divine Divinity, Sacred, and Sacred 2 are pretty similar as well. Although they each have some nuances that make them different from one another. Titan Quest and Torchlight are the two games that stay the closest to the original Diablo II gameplay though.

the thing is, im a little wary against rated m games. something about them, just... turns me away. it seems titan quest is the other game very similar to torchlight. sacred, divine divinity, and dungeon seige dont really interest me. i guess its titan quest than.

Titan Quest and its expansion, Immortal Throne, are definitely worth checking out. The bundle was $5 on D2D a few weeks ago :( But it's prob still cheap anyway. Great game that I've spent a lot of time playing with a friend...

While the games suggested in the above post are good, if you are looking for a game like Torchlight those aren't it. Those are slow paced traditional RPG's...slow(er) combat with lots of talking ect.

Anyways, I agree with the consensus so far...Titan Quest + Immortal Throne. It's the best hack and slasher that's not Diablo. Very detailed and deep skill system, dual class characters, huge extensive item database, and a long main quest with some really great looking areas.

If that doesn't work for you, these are also good:

Sacred

Dungeon Siege I and II

Divine Divinity

ive seen many posted games as TQ - D2 -D1 -BGetc...

In a way those classics ( im playing D2 since 2003 and i mstill doin it online, one of my best games ever ) games are awesome but not for someone that started this genre with Torchlight. I mean Torchlight got everything D1 - D2 - TQ - Sacred etc have with a very nice Diablish approach ( a rip off if you ask me ) but with a wowish cartoony style also.

That , even if weve seen them before , make it something special and "eye candy" as of spells , armors , loot etc .. I dont think there is any similar fun game as torchlight atm , all games people here mentioning are very old and youll find em "weird" to play or have fun with them i bet. They are 10 years old games or close to that , is logical not to. But give them a try...

If you want my opinion w8 for Diablo 3 or Torchlight online. TERA looks promising with its 3rd person prospectivesuper action, even if its more of an MMORPG than H/s RPG. A new game called DRAGON NEST coming into 2011 , is very promising i had a chance to play its Korean version , awesome game , great actiondungeon fun.

yea, tbh I found it very hard to go back to Diablo 2 after Titan Quest.

Torchlight is good and all, but its like "Diablo Lite", and not even close to Titan Quest in terms of depth.

Also, I know you wanted someone more fantasy-based but there are some good scifi hack and slash games out there too.

Titan quest hands down is the best one. Diablo 2 is very good but the graphics are way too outdated. Stupid blizzard if they would of re-released diablo 2 with updated graphics they would of made a fortune.

I wont disagree with you , TQ in terms of depth was imbor. But the TC here loved Torchlight and want something. I bet he wants what Torchlight offered and that was plain fun and dungeon action. I cant find something more appropriate game than this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLL-mnONzWg&playnext_from=TL&videos=89EJtHCclMw Its the closest to what he is looking for i bet. Even with different 3D approach DN is just what Torchlight is. Go in , kill everything , have loot and lvl up. Simple as that :)

diablo 2 is still for sale in most stores that sell pc games, so I think they did fine.

Get Diablo II + Expansion if you haven't already.. There's not any less gore than Torchlight or any sexual content.. In matter of fact it's the same people who made it.

I wouldn't say that...while the combat blood and gore is about the same the back ground stuff in Diablo 2 can get pretty gruesome. Stuff like naked bodies hunched over dead, torture, piles of dead people, and stuff like that. Come to think of it, even the combat is more gruesome in Diablo 2. Yes Torchlight does have blood and gore but it's done in a cartoony and exaggerated way while in Diablo 2 there's way more realistic looking death effects with lots of blood, ooze, and stuff like that.

I'd have to say Diablo. Mainly because a dev that worked on Diablo also worked on Torchlight so there'd be an obvious correlation between the two.

my whole thing with m rated games is that they are usually very gorey and i get really woozy when i see an excess of blood. even if it presented i na cartoonish way. therefore, i have turn off the blood in torchlight. but as i skimmed through this, my eyes caught the word "sci-fi". im not sure if mass effect would count. all i know is that its a rpg with a sci-fi theme. does it have any similarities to the combat system of torchlight?

just to clarify, what i like about torchlight is that it runs on my current pc (which is a miracle with intel integrated gma graphics), the top-down viewing angle, the not too cartoony graphics, and its similarities to FF: Crystal Chronicles: Rings of Fate for the DS. i LOVED that game! if there was a pc port of that game, which i know wont happen because of age of the game and other things, i would be all over it, and i wouldnt be at school for a few weeks. so thats what im looking for in a game.

I haven't seen it mentioned yet... but Fate is the game you are looking for... Similar art style and content to Torchlight. Same addicting gameplay.

I was about to mention "Fate". There is also a game called "Beyond Divinity".
