A $799 samsung with i5, 4 gigs ram, and GT 330. It has no reviews

a $999 Dell with an i5, 4 gigs of ram, and 4670. Great review

A $899 Asus with a C2D, 4 gigs of ram, and GTX260m. Extremely mixed reviews

A $999 Asus with a C2D, 6 gigs of ram, and GTX260m. Better than the other Asus

Which would you choose? My links wouldn't work so I had to post this.

I changed it. The two Asus laptops have been reviewed to have problems with the screen, and the speakers.

I would go with the Dell laptop. Good reviews and good specs for $999.

I want to go with that one too. My only problem with it is that the graphics card is a 4670. The GTX 260 almost doubles it in frames with a Crysis test.

I'd go for the $899 ASUS. The GTX 260m is much better than the HD 4670 and 4gb is enough.

I really want that one, but I hear alot of people have problems with the speakers and the screen when it's angled. It's between the Dell, and that Asus laptop

Well the $899 and $999 ASUS's makes more sense than the Dell imo.

I know I wouldn't mind those two "problems" as I don't like it when people look at what I am doing and I always use earbuds for sound

I'm probably going to go with the 899 Asus. The only real problem with the screen is the washed out colors

Unfortunate that ASUS seems to have bundles the hardware with an inferior quality screen :(

You think the Core 2 Duo will last me, or will I have to overclock it?

Youd prob have to OC it, but that should be quite easy since u can just use SetFSB, if you get it, I can give u good link to optimize it.

However, I wouldnt quite recommend it unless ur feeling lucky. Some ppl get good ones, some ppl get bad ones.

I had the G71GX-RBB05 for a while, the game performance was very nice, but the screen and heat was crazy bad. I am sorta picky when it comes to screen colors. etc. But others complained about the screen too, so I know its not all me.

I'm pretty sure the G72 and the G60 are pretty much the same as the first GTX260 variants as the forums i read pretty much showed same complaints when reading about the G71 and G51s. All in in, buy at ur own risk, you never know, I had bad luck, gave up after having 3 bad G71s and just got my money back. But if you get lucky, it will work well, they havent been around long enough, so only time will tell how long the GTX260s can take getting up to 90c+ on those laptops since Asus decided to only use 1 fan for the CPU and GPU cooling, poor mistake IMHO.

K, sorry for small rant, wasnt trying, but I wish i could recommend them, but from my personal experience and from what I read, I simply cant.

Would getting a laptop cooler help decreases the temps?

Hrm, I guess, I had the CryoXL(70bucks) when using the G71, think maybe helped bring the temps down by like 3-4c. I believe some ppl reported higher drops, but guess they were lucky if so. A few did a quick copper mod, which they added copper heatsinks onto the heatpipes on the laptop. Than brought the temps down pretty good, one guy has his gtx260 a GTX280 speeds after the copper mod he only gets 79c as his max temp. Versus, Asus clocks 500/1250/1600(lower than what a true GTX260 should be 550/1375/1800), but even underclocked it can reach upward to 102c if you have bad luck. 90-95c if you have good luck and get a cool laptop in the first place. For me, with the cooler, I was maxing out at 87-90c in a 70f ambient room temp. Which is ok, but I was worried a bit as here in TX my room can get close to 90f. In short, i guess a cooler would help, but for me, it wasnt worth the 70bucks for a 3c drop. The 2 coolers most popular are NC2000 for the 15.6" as its got best placement for its vents. While the CryoXL was better for the G71/72 laptops as the vents were best placed for that model.

If you're going to game, get the $999 Asus. Personally, I'd get the $999 Dell but I don't do PC gaming. :P

I've heard some pretty good things about it, but dunno about temps in it.

Not sure what that reviewer is talking about the warranty. Asus offers 24months warranty and as long as you buy online and register within 30 days of buying u get 12months accidental spill an drop warranty too.

The downsides to that laptop is the low res. I mean for games the res prob wouldnt be a bother. But if your doing any other kind of work on it, higher screen res is always better.

If you'd like to go and read about all the Asus laptops your finding, these forums cover a lot of ground, from personal use, to just very good general information thats harder to find elsewhere. http://forum.notebookreview.com/forumdisplay.php?f=19&order=desc

They have other forums for other major laptop manufactures, so pretty much I go there if I want to learn about a laptop. Generally I can pretty much find at least 1 good thread talking about every model you can find.

Thanks, and if I do happen to do alot of other things on the laptop I can always hook it up to my tv.
