didn't they already prove the 4850 was the best value? There is a ranking if that's what you meant.

honestly it goes back and forth, one generation ati may be ahead, like lol now for instance, and one generation nvidia may be ahead, like maybe the one to come.

its been this way for a while.

That question makes no sense - there have been very few (if any) points in history where one company completely dominated the other at all price points. The guy who has $150 to spend on a GPU isn't necessarily going to want to go with the same company if his budget suddenly doubles or halves. That being said, right now ATI definitely has the upper hand at most price points.

right now its ATI easily, but hopefully NVIDIA comes out with something special soon cause they need to keep pace with the 5000 series.

Nvidia tends to bring out the best cards eventually, and just like Intel those best cards are certainly NOOOOO where any competition when it comes to price/performance. Still, now is not the case. ATi has the best cards, and the only DX11 cards. We'll get a clearer picture once Fermi is out.

I still prefer nVidia cards over ATI. Of course, that also might have to do with EVGA being my video card company and they only make nVidia cards. So, that limits my choice quite a bit. Although, I have a ATi 4500 for my HTPC and it does a very good job running my media system.

ATi is better overall. The thing with Nvidia though is that pay many developers to become partners and they gain better optimizations for their cards. But 5xxx series is too sexy right now, low temps/low power usage and good performance. Fermi is going to have to do something grand to take the crown.
