You know, you could have given us much more info, like system specs, and idle and load temperature for the GPU. Just by what you said, I can't determine anything.

That's a pretty hefty OC, if you don't have some effective cooling I can imagine that is the problem.

To a point where the temps are manageable, which is ultimately when it is no longer "slow", which would be an increased performance over stock . I have little knowledge of the GTX 260, but I remember my brothers 9800GTX+ had a BIOS mechanism which would cause it to revert to 2D clocks when the system was OC'ed.

I dont think its the temps cause when i oc, and then when i go play it gets slow as soon as the game starts

Does the screen ever flash black for an extended period of time and revert back and seem all slow? That would mean the system is unstable and you should turn down the clocks... It just sounds like the computer isn't stable at those clocks, for whatever the reason, otherwise there would be a performance increase.

yea did the same with me. nvidia display driver stops responding right. if i remember safe oc for one fo those is around 675 core and memory can be anything stable. so i wouldnt go above. just because you can, doesnt mean it is good. my 8800gt went up from 600 to 885 core, and mem from 900 to 1125, but my fps were crap from nvidia not responding. my friend had the sme problem

You're pretty much trying to take your GPU and overclock it (for the most part) by a good 25%....

I hate to tell you this, but most GPUs don't overclock by that much unless you voltmod your card. Granted there might be some exceptions to this, I did have an 8800GTS 640MB card that I got about a 20% overclock into before it became unstable, but that's not a common thing all the time.

Back your OC down a ways. Maybe start with upping the clocks all by 100MHz and test the results. If things run well, then bump up the clocks a little (10-15MHz) and do this until you find a spot where the card starts acting strange: you're getting artifacts, or things run really slow or games lockup. When you hit that point back the OC down just a touch and that should pretty much leave your card at it's max overclock speeds.

All in all, overclocking a GPU doesn't really give you too much of a benefit in a performance boost. You could see absolutely no improvement in some games and maybe up to a 20% boost in other games (all depending on your overclock). In the end, you pretty much end up with maybe a 2-5% bump in performance for the most part. Now, if you know how to voltmod then you can really get good overclocks out of video cards. But upon doing so, you'll void any warranty you have on that card so if you F'it up, you're screwed.
