ok im sorta new to overclocking, i just wanted to know how much is a good improvement the stock settings are 500/600 mhz and i got it to 580/777 mhz if i go any higher it detects an error and automatically lowers the settings a lil. i just wanted to know if thats a sorta average boost if if i can push it further
Don't forget to use a good aftermarket cooler and make sure you have proper airflow in the case. It's a good start OC, but I would increase the RAM a bit, close to 800MHz if possible. If you can OC to that with good cooling, your in for a big increase in performance which should be noticeable.

That is a nice overclock.
This benchmark is of a stock 7950GX2 and XFX 7950GX2 XXX (oc'ed to 570/1550- which is about equal to yours) The XFX XXX gives a good 10-20fps boost over the stock in most games.
I got my 7900gs from 450mhz/650mhz to 600mhz/770mhz and could run 3D mark fine and play battlefield 2 with no problems and the temps were less than 50c
