overclocking GPU help

I have a Radeon x1950Pro. Im trying to overclock it using rivatuner. Im testing and benchmarking with 3dmark 06.

Ok so I bench stock at max settings: and then overclock little by little. After the overclock my score lowers.

So I drop resolution to 1280x1024 and AA to 4x and filtering to bilinear: Once again I overclock little by little and my score goes up.

So Im really confused? Does my overclock increase performance or not?

Just by lowering the resolution will give alittle boost then by overclocking with that will add some fps. Now for the first question running with your first/normal res you use with overclocking was to much for your card which means it got too hot.
