Software to OC the CPU?

Just go into your bios to OC your CPU. I've never tried any software and I wouldn't advise using software.

Core2 is a pretty weak and outdated architecture, he must squeeze a bit more out of it :D Your CPU is drastically holding you video card mate, don't know who combined a top end graphics card and a micro stuttering IMC-less Core2. Get an I7.

so the architecture of the CPU have such a large impact, even tho its a quad core? i think you are right

hey slig0,we all know that i7 and p2 have good architecture.but that doesnt mean a core 2 quad running at 2.8 ghz is a weak processor.i know you are an intel basher but this is too much.even in the amd website phenom 2's are compared only to core 2 quads and not core i7s. i have seen in many posts about you complaining about the performance of your ati-amd combination rig.but guess what, i have a friend with a core 2 quad at 3.06ghz maxing out crysis warhead at 1920.1200 with aa and still getting an average fps of 70-75.just becaus they dont have an imc doesnt make core 2 quad the weakest .yes it is weaker than the p2 but not that much and the highest end quads will give the p2's a run for their money.and from where i live intel core i7is actually cheaper than amd phenom 2 965.i have seen you jumping into threads and bashing intel processors.such a fanboy.and as a final note if you manage to hit 3.6ghzthat will be a huge performance leap

Total fail. Thats all I can say. Core 2 hold their own very well, just because newer better chips are out there doesn't mean Core 2 are instant-fails. A Q9550 is up to the marks of i7 in gaming benchmarks, and I've tested this myself with mine and my dad's computers. Also, OC your Q9550 via the BIOS. Software for OC is not what I'd recommend.

And the poinht of those links is? I agree that i7 and PII are ahead of C2Q, but it is NOT far behind them. Then difference is not day and night especially on higher end ones(Especially the ones which are OC'ed). The point is, don't get an i7/PII 965 if you got a higher end C2D/C2Q.

Chill up man, I'm poking you. Of course you don't need to change to PII if you have a higher end quad. This thread is over.

Haha, very nice. Thank you all, now I know who is and who isn't an ingorant fanboy. Scratch that post, I didn't even mean it, just to provoke you. And here are some benchies for you and a thread about your precious IMC-less microstuttering inferior Q9550:

Your ignorance knows no bounds.

and the highest end quads will give the p2's a run for their money

Do you know what you are talking about? Probably not... No Core2 quads on the planet can match high end PII's, even the extreme edition. And what, a run for the money? I fail to see how an overpriced QX9750 that barely competes with PII will give it a run for the money. So, let us put it this way: PII=Core2 Extreme in performance. PII=quarter of the price of QX. Run for the money?

i have seen you jumping into threads and bashing intel processors

Right now you have bashed AMD, so what? I can be a fanboy of whatever I want. If I said a Pentium 4 outperforms a PII you would agree.

Slig0

My god.. It's pretty well-known that for 95% of things that people are going to use their PC's for, even the Core 2 architecture is overkill. My old AMD Socket 939 Athlon 64 X2@ 2.6ghz was plenty fast until I got into the most CPU-intensive games. If I was just playing FPS, that would still be plenty. We are at a stage in CPU development where the hardware is well ahead of the software being currently released. The Core 2 Duo Wolfdale was released in January 2008, right? Look how many people have those now (overclocked and not), and still most games don't really test them.

The point is that all these higher-end processors are such overkill that the whole argument means nothing. It's like trying to prove that having 600 million dollars is so much better than having 500 million. I wouldn't even use half of the 500, so what's the point of having 600?!
