I've got an E8400 and an 8800GT. I'm contemplating getting a scythe ninja and overclocking it to 4ghz or so. I'm wondering if I will see a performance gain in my games. I run at 1600x1050 res.

Reason why I'm asking is if I'm not going to see much gain I won't bother getting a ninja since my temps/noise level atm are fine with stock.

i think if u want to improve your gaming performance u should overclocked your graphic card not your proc..

i use G 8800GT too, and i think it very hard playing game in 1600x1050 res with high quality graphic.. i suggest u upgrade your graphic card to R 3870X2 or G 9800GX2 or wait till R 4xxx series released in july..

I used to compare my 3.0Ghz (stock) and 3.4 (oced) and the difference IS clear. It gives me a least 5 Fps in Crysis.

Okay thanks, because I saw my GPU as a bottleneck not my CPU. And I've already overclocked my GPU to the limit.

No, unfortunately performance will actually decrease as your CPU will be running too fast for your system to catch up................... :P

You had me going there for a second :P. I was just wondering if I'd see any performance or weather it would just be exactly the same.

consider ur self lucky i have an 8800 gts 320 mb and have to play ona 24 inch monitor at 1920x1200 not amount of over clocking will really help me at that rez. oh well once the new cards come out i should have one by christmas :D. but if u want to c gaming improvments over clocking the graphics cards will proably give u a boost of 10%.

dude he's not joking.. i've over clocked my CPU from 2.6 to 3.0 and i havent seen a performance increase, i remember running a stress test in FEAR and i was about 2-3 FPS down when overclocked!
