Hey everyone. I want to overclock my Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 gigahertz processor to 2.7 gigahertz. Will this require extra cooling, or will my current fan be good (My cpu stays at about 50 celcius when i'm not gaming).

Im not to sure about over clocking because ive never done that.

However that cooling system should handle it :)

You may need to up the fan speed a little

So now just wait for somone who knows how to O.C you finish the question

You using the stock fan that the q6600 came with? If so, just get an arctic freezer 7 pro for $25. With a q6600 and the freezer 7, my idle temps of a q6600 oc'ed to 3.0 are under 40c.

The important temp is the temp under load and it should be under 70c.

You should be able to hit 2.7 with stock, but I wouldn't suggest you go any higher until you get a new heatsink/fan. Stress test after the o.c. to make sure your temps are not too high.
