Hello there.

Well the whole overclocking thing is in its late infancy(lol) in terms of understanding to me. So I know some, but not much about it from looking around and such. As I am upgrading my computer soon(new processor, mobo, gfx card, maybe ram) I want to get more into tweaking things. I will be getting a new processor in september and would like to overclock it, well at least try to anyway :P. But to make sure I don't screw up I would like to overclock my current processor a bit, just to get used to the idea, you know? So I hear people talking about it on here, and I found a reliable guide, supposedly, on how to do it, and it includes a full color picture instruction book, but it costs $15, so meh lol.

Yeah, I just want to get used to the idea of overclocking, and everything that goes with it. I heard that you press delete or some button to go into a "bios" when you start up, then you fiddle with multipliers or something. I just want to be sure on what I'm doing, so if you guys could give me tips or heck even walk me through it that would be great. Once I know how to do it I can help other overclocking newbies, just like you did to me :D(if you help :P). If for the most strangest reason, my processor "dies", I think I will be alright, because I'm going to get new stuff anyway.

So yeah, I guess this is just a how to overclock your cpu kinda thread, sorry if you don't like helping those =(.

I will continue searching google, but I want your guys's advice, since I feel like we are a brotherhood I can trust you guys. Now ain't that sweet :).

Haha thanks;),

Edit: Oh snappidydapdap I forgot to add my processor, hahaha. It's a socket 939 AMD Sempron 3400+ processor. It's around 2 ghz around there. Not sure what processor I'm going to get. Oh and so I don't add another edit, my psu is 550? watts I think, haha. Cooling system is a fan, but if stuff gets to hot, I can just open up the side pannel, and put my portable fan right smack in front of it haha.

Well first off, you might want to Google OC guides to at least try to understand the basic idea more.

Second, any AMD CPU will NOT want to overclock very far. If you're looking for any real OCing you'll have to go Intel.

Yeah, I'm in the process of OC'ing my first PC that I just built. I read up on OC'ing yesterday and once you begin to grasp the concept, it's really a simple trial and error process. I really can't help you too much here because you're using an AMD CPU and I'm OC'ing an Intel. I also dont want to be a **** and jack your thread, but I have a similar question (I logged on for the first time in months) and I'd like to avoid duplicate threads. I just overclocked my Q6600 to 3.0GHz via 1333MHz FSB. I'm looking into the RAM next, but really I don't know where to start. My RAM is DDR2 800 and my timings are 6-6-6-18-2T @ 1.900V. Now just to clear up what I'm aiming for, if I could just get my timings down, I'd be satisfied, but if you guys think going for 850MHz or 900MHz would be better than I'll try it out. I just have a feeling that getting my timings down would be easier. What would be a sensible overclock? I'm either aiming for 5-5-5-15 or 4-4-4-12. For the latter I'd have to probably kick my Voltage up to 2.2V, but my board is pretty stable. I'm running an NVIDIA 750i (EVGA).

Is the RAM you're using able to handle +2.2v. I know some RAM will crap out if you increase the voltage too far above what it's suppose to run. Also, I think 4-4-4-12 latency is a little too tight for 900 Mhz RAM, what was originally stocked at 800 Mhz.

Tomshardware (a website) has a 3 part guide to overclocking, and other sites and forums also provide a wealth of information. Personally I don't like the idea of oc-ing that much, although I must admit it can be tempting at times :P (I own a factory overclocked 7800GS which under full load still doesn't get any hotter than 41-43 degrees C., I guess that I could easily oc it further to 500MHz)

On Newegg's page for my RAM (OCZ SLI 2 x 2GB) they say that it can handle 2.1V. It also says that the timings are 5-5-4-15...which is quite disturbing since I'm only getting 6-6-6-18. At this point I'd be completely satisfied with getting my timings just under the factory spec @ 800 MHz.
