I am not particularly computer savy, I know the basics but nothing fancy. Anyway I have just gotten a new gaming rig built and everything seemed to be running great until I tried playing Farcry 2 and Call od Duty: World at War. Both play fine for a couple of minutes and then lockup or crash to desktop. Well in trying to figure out what the problem was I noticed that one fan in the back of thetower (out of 3) doesn't seem to be running. My question is, is that one fan not running enough to shut down a graphic intensive game?

Of course I will replace the faneither way but I am just wondering if this could be the problem or if I need tokeep looking.

If it is a case fan it might not be the issue. If it was a processor issue it would lock up your entire rig vs. crash to your desktop so I would look at the video card(s). Check your drivers and make sure you have the proper ones installed. More than likely you have overclocking on and that might be crashing it (nforce?). Go into your even logs and see if it was a hardware or software driver failure at the time it crashed and that should lead you to the right direction. Typically, the video card GPU can take the same amount of heat as your CPU so you would get memory dumps or total lockouts if the airflow was a problem.

I am at work at the moment but what I can remeber is it has a Nvidia Geoforce GTX 260, Intel Core quad q950 and I believe 4 gigs of ram(though I can't remember what type of ram) and is running with Windows 7.

Sorry this is so vague

Do you think a person who doesn't even know the full and correct specs of his computer would overclock it? And instead of giving specs at the start, he thought it was not necessary.

You may be right, but snide remarks don't help solve the problem. You'd be surprised what some people that don't have a clue about computers will try to do to them - maybe the TC was playing around with an overclocking program for his GPU....or was messing around in the BIOS and might have changed something when they shouldn't have.... This is why we ask these questions when people post here looking for help. If you're not willing to contribute to solving a problem, then there is no need to post. The more info we can gather then the more help we can offer.

Hey, he said he got it built which means its possible that he asked someone who is tech savy to build it for him. There's also a chance that his friend/builder OCed his gaming rig for him. Don't rule out options until its set in stone

I'm saying that there is very little possibility that he overclocked the parts himself. As for the PC builders, that's another story. And if he messed something up in the BIOS he can just reset all settings. So your point is?
