I am trying to find some answers regarding a new motherboard. I have spent hours trying to figure out which board to get and still am no closer to making a decision since I am having trouble finding answers. I am looking to make a new computer that will be used mostly for internet, video editing, photoshop, and games. My old A8N so I need some new parts.

I have it down to either the Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L or the ASUS P5Q Pro (or perhaps the GIGABYTE P45 upgrade, but I have not seen any reviews on it yet). I mostly just need to know if a P35 board will be enough or is it a good idea to go for a P45 board so it will last longer. Will I see any actual performance gain using the newer board? Will I ever use the benefits of the new board (i.e. PCI-E 2.0) or will it only matter for higher end users?

Here is what I have planned so far:

Intel C2D E8400

OCZ 2 x 2GB DDR21000 RAM (would G.Skill be be better?)

Antec TruePower 2.0 550W PSU

MSI GeForce 8800GT 512

2 x IDE DVD burners

2 x SATA HD

Coolermaster Centurion 5 (will this supply enough airflow if I plan to OC or should I look into a new case as well?)

Thanks for any suggestion!

If you are going to upgrade the graphics card in the future, then you will see the benefits of PCI-E 2.0.

if you can, get an x48 board so you get full x16 + x16 times crossfire capability.

The P45 mobos that only have one PCIe 2.0 slot are only like 10-30 dollars more than the newer p35s....might as well pick up a P45 considering it is technically the next step up from a P35 mobo.

Correct me if I am wrong but in theory shouldn't 2 PCIe 2.0 slots running 8x/8x crossfire be just as good as 2 PCIe 1.1 slots running 16x/16x crossfire?

I already had an 8800GT from my old computer. i am thinking of getting an intel board because ATI seems to be getting stronger again, while when I got the old computer, Nvidia seemed to be on top. If I upgrade my video card down the road, I would probably go for an ATI card, which is why I am thinking P45 (or I guess X48).

Well X38 and x48 are the first gens for dual x16 for Crossfire. They have shown tests between P45 Crossfire and X48. The x48 pulled ahead, but nothing that will affect your ingame performance dramatically. We will need to wait for the RV8** generation for that.
