After just a day of playing alot of Counter Strike, 2-3 hours max my wrist is starting to hurt from the base of the hand down to the mid forearm. I just started why am I already experiecing pain? I don't even think 2-3 hours is long I kno people who pull 10 hour sessions and their wrists are fine. Im also an avid console gamer. Could using a pad contribute? What am I experiencing? PLEASE HELP

Must I say that it was a preexisting condition from whacking off too much.

How is your desk? Your desk is a major contribution to pains possibly from bad positioning of keyboard and mouse. The sliding thing under my desk for my keyboard broke, now it's on top of the desk. My forearm's veins are like getting pinched because I lay my forearm at the edge. I guess I have to get used to holding up my hands, so my forearms don't touch.coblexkitten
that may be itÂ

Its probably fine, I used to be a avid console gamer too. But then I found Quake 4 for PC and I started to play it a lot and at the beganing my fingers ached and ached like no other. It generally started about an hour straight of playing. Also though maybe its your posture, I've learned that if you do not have your hand resting the right way that can cause pains and other problems.
Honestly though its just those muscles not being used that much until you started playing css. So just give it time or make sure you have your wrist in the correct comfortable position. My fingers don't ever ache now except for one on my mouse finger but I think its just me building some more mouse and keyboard muscles. Its sounds weird, but its just that way, Â

your comment makes sence, i like sence...thanksÂ
It's sense, bud.
Grammar aside, RSI is something you'll wanna look out for, because it can seriously **** up your arm for life.
Depending on what you're feeling it can either be your hand adjusting to intensive use of a mouse or your hand slowly getting really messed up through intensive use of a mouse. Does it feel like a stinging/moaning kind of pain, numb fingers, trouble with moving your hand/fingers or a pulsating feeling in your wirst? If so, you'd be smart to leave the mouse alone when these symptoms arise, because those are the starting symptoms of RSI.
Take a 10 minute break every half hour (preferably) or full hour. Do a very easy exercise for your mouse hand. Very slowly twist your wrist around in circles. Move all your fingers slowly in every way possible so all your hand's muscles are doing something. Move your arm around a little. Don't do anything that is too hard on the muscles. Do that for a couple of minutes, then go watch TV or something so you aren't using your hand too much. Google for RSI for more info.
I never really had a problem with RSI. I also experienced in the beginning some minor pain and tingling in my hand/fingers but that stopped after lots of gaming. I was always carefull though. I remember once my hand hurt like hell for a day or so. I just took a break for a whole day and the next day I didn't had any problems anymore. I guess our bodies weren't created to click left mouse buttons whole day long. But now I never get any problems anymore. I can click whole day long...
As others have already suggested, you should take regular breaks, and check that your sitting posture/desk is not contributing to your condition - simply having your hand at the wrong angle for an extended period could be causing problems.
I suffered from wrist pain and finger pain myself a couple of years ago, and had to wear a supoprt band for a while, and I've been using PCs for a couple of decades. I narrowed the problem down to the shape of the mouse I was using (it was an Intellimouse Explorer), and after switching to a more comfortable mouse (a Logitech MX500 at the time), the pain went away. It was that simple for me, so I would highly recommend looking at your mouse among other things as it might not be the right shape for your hand.
Also I would suggest getting teflon strips and a decent mousemat so that your mouse glides across the surface rather than you have to push it around. That too is an unnecessary strain.

Before you do anymore gaming I would consult your doctor. I've seen a post on here saying a person was experiencing pain in his wrist and didn't think much of it, until it became a very sharp and harsh pain. Turns out, he got (or already had) a severe case of carpool tunnel syndrome. I'd check it out if I were you.Â

What did you expect? I knew someone was going to say something like that...My wrist starts to hurt when I play my DS lite for more then an hour... Just try to have your forearm and hand as straight as possible with no bend in the wrist... (Don't have your forearm higher then your hand)

really that and computer gaming leads to that. really Yeah, me too, my wrist started to hurt at 1st bcuz of the mouse and how I rest my right hand. but thats why lots of people hurt their wrists too......come to think of it console controllers are better for your hands(and someone, dont tell me to get a pc controller cuz if I do then I'd rather play my PS3). also playing FPS will use lots of mouse to aim and click causes the pain. but when I play MMO it doesnt hurt that much cuz dont using all the time, that gives your right hand a rest. well, to me ayway.
Anyways, I had to exercise my wrist, doing stretching and stuff, it helps but still gonna hurt if play too much.....take care.

I use a chair with an adjustable arm rest so that my arm is at a good angle. If you want you can try to find some ergonomic pads or something like that to rest your arm on. Seriously though, your chair should have an armrest.VfighterX
My wrist would hurt when I didn't support my arm with an armrest. Is your arm floating freely or is the whole arm fully resting on the table+chair armrest? I'm pretty sure that would be the problem.
Everyone needs those gel pads beneath their mouses! Many companies (and mine, the USAF :p) provide them for free with the computers we use at work at least. I'm pretty sure it helps.. At least it helped my minor wrist pains, and I've never had any problems since I went back to the gel wrist mousepad. It could be the perfect magical cure!
And then there's stationary mice that just sit there on the desk, and you use your thumb to roll a wheel which moves the mouse.. I see those all the time.Â

Being new, you are at greater risk. 1) take more breaks, 2) during the breaks streatch out your fingers and your hand, 3) try not to hold the mouse with too great force, keep hands relaxed while gaming, 4) listen to your pain, and don't play when you need to take a break.
Â
If you go to far, you can get injured, of course, like from any other extreme computer use.Â
 LISTEN CAREFULLY NOW DEAR FELLOW:
Dude, you need to get yourself a professional "Gaming grade" mouse, and board!!
Â
logitech's mx510, mx518, g5, g7 are all fine rodents for the job
as for the board, go with Saitecks Fang  or ideazone's ZBoard
Â
otherwise, shooting pains, cramps and potential permanent damage are inevitable consequences to using crap/generic-use equipment in prolonged sessions of professional gaming......
ps-the board is not as critical as the mouse but a basic ergonomic design is minimum requirementÂ
