So I want to use my Sennheiser HD600s for late(r) night films. I just realized, unless I'm missing it, that there is no audio-out for this tv? Since this apparently is the case, what is the best way to go about using headphones with the tv? I'm trying to work around using a larger amp, as I've lent it out because of noise issues(hence the hd600s). Essentially I want to run the audio, coming from a ps3, to my headphones.

Help?

Is this what the back looks like on your display?

Because I see an analog (red/white) out and a digital (optical) out.

No, it is a bit different. I just noticed an optical out.

Would something like this work work? And would you recommend it? I've got these nice headphones and I want to make sure I get the best I can out of them.

I apologize, gs won't let me link.

No that's a USB soundcard, you need a DAC of sorts. How much are you willing to spend? Also what was the Amp that you lent out?

And an alternative solution is connecting the analog out of any cable box/gaming console/etc. to a small amp like the Bravo V2 ($30-$50).

I've been looking for an optical DAC (most headphone DACs are USB) as I consider my options, but there actually are very few with an integrated amp, and dedicated DACs and a seperate headphone amp can be expensive.

The best compromise in terms of price:performance is the Yulong D100 (Head-Fi Rank #14, Gamespot links are broken) is probably your most realistic option. I'm not even bothering to list anything else, it was that tough to find the Yulong at its price point (~$500). You can find some less-expensive alternatives using some generic DACs from Parts Express, but it's not going to hold a candle.

At that price, though, you might want to consider using a receiver, but then you're venturing beyond the boundaries of my expertise. My knowledge ends at the audiophile stage where someone at Head-Fi might be able to tell you the difference between the guts of one DAC/Amp combo over another.

Good luck,

Boz

Are you sure it can't be used? You are probably right, but it was the optical-in that threw me off. I'm looking to spend around $100, unless the benefit of going a little bit more is worthwhile. Thank you for pointing out the option of the analog out for the ps3, which is an option, but I'm really looking for an all-in-one solution for games/tv/movies. I don't have cable and I'm trying to rid of as much stuff as possible as I'll be moving in just over a few months.

I was using two amps--a NAD and an Alesis.

The ULTIMATE solution I'd like is to get a headphone amp that I can also carry around with me. That seems unlikely, though(unless I go the ps3-audio out way). I'm a little bummed as I just came home with the Star Wars blu ray!

Thank you for the help, as always.

EDIT: I was browsing amazon and thought what I posted up top was the same product. I believe this is actually what I had meant to show you:

With your only option being the optical output from the television, it's unlikely that you'll find a portable headphone amp. Portable amps are designed for iPods, MP3 players, and laptops. You'll find they're either USB or analog amps, as a result. I think you'll have better luck over at Head-Fi for this kind of questions; they might know a more obscure brand/model that will suit your needs. Good luck, Boz
