So after coming here I decided to get the Panasonic g25, I bought it in september. I use it mainly for gaming. It was working fine up until I start playing Fight night champion. Now I see the health bars on the bottom screen of the tv. Its been there for about a week straight now. I haven't played the game since I have noticed it. I been only watching movies hoping it will go away, but it hasn't yet.

The settings I game on are Custom Contrast 59, brightness, 57.

Even if it eventually goes away, I'm sure I will now have to worry about it coming back in the future.

Anyone telling me to game on thx can forget about it, doesn't looks as sharp or good TO ME.

Should I just sell this tv and get an LCD since I game heavily?

I have a Panasonic P50 G25. Imagine retention happens, but it should go away. Certain things in games take longer to go away and can be annoying (The bottom scoreboard line in Madden took a long time), but it will go away, so don't worry. I watch a lot of hockey, and the white ice for 2.5 hours every time I watch a game usually does the trick for getting rid of any retention I have. I bought my TV in October, and IR was more of a problem the first few months. Now I don't seem to notice it at all unless I marathon game with a game for a few hours. Anyway, I would say don't worry about it too much. Its not permanent, it will go away. Try not to obsess about it. I wouldn't get an LCD just because of some IR. The image you're getting on your Panny plasma outperforms any LCD on the market by far. Oh and, game in THX mode. :)

Thanks for the reply lol, I find custom to be the sharpest and best way to game. In fight night or god of war you can literally see the pores on the character models. Its a great tv but I play fight night a lot, like 4 to 6 hours a day, and the bottom health and stamina along with round timer is up there for 10 3 min rounds, I see that causing burn in if I play that much and those things are always there. Besides that the tv is amazing but I want to game with out having any worries.

I have the GT25 and have what i am fairly certain to be burn-in on the lower left corner where the special skill icon is in Borderlands.

Panel had about 300 hours on it before i started playing. Played a Hunter for about 5 hours, watched 2 netflix streams and a BD and then played for 5 more hours the next morning.

Sure, that usage is probably borderline safe with only 300 hours considering how blaringly bright the UI is in that game but whatever. And this is with pixel orbiting on its most aggressive setting and a vastly reduced contrast setting ( normally run 55 in THX but set it to 40 for gaming ).

So i played for about 10 hours over the course of 2 days with about 5 or 6 hours of full screen content in between sessions. I noticed how bad the retention was and decided to just game on the LCD while i ran nothing but full screen video on the plasma to clear it.

Since then i have ran Toy Story 3 with increased contrast and brightness for 24 consecutive hours, a pure white image with max contrast and brightness for about 6 hours and the nigh worthless scrolling bar for a few more. I eventually just came to the conclusion that it wasnt going away. You can clearly see it on any form of bright screen or any solid color that is not overly dark and from 6+ feet away.

Since giving up i have watched about 50 hours of netflix streams with my normal settings with absolutely no improvement whatsoever. Since the initial improvement i got after looping TS3 it has got no better at all.

The retained image is darker than surrounding while all the other UI elements that had retention but changed more often while playing were lighter than surrounding ( they also completely vanished after about 20 minutes of TS3). It might possibly go away but if it is getting better it is doing so in such a slow fashion that i can't tell any difference after trying to forcefully remove it for 2+ weeks.

I would personally rather keep gaming on the GT even if it meant wrecking it for all other content. My LCD has terrible BL bleed and a viewing angle so crappy that its essentially a 1 person at a time display.

I'm just sort of muffed that the IR is either THAT bad or i have burn-in when i really didn't do anything i would call abusive or that far outside of normal.

What kind of LCD you got? I was thinking of going with the samsung c630. I been hearing really good things and its in my price range. I know it won't be as sharp as the plasma and the motion won't be as good but atleast I can play my games without any worries

I wouldn't suggest that. I've had a Samsung LCD get burned really bad. The whole right side of the screen has something on it and it make the TV look really bad in motion. The really bad burned spot is near the middle that never goes away. Also had another LCD that had the same problem but not as severe. Still did not go away and was extremely annoying. Was a rebranded Samsung LCD. We now have an LG LCD but its of much higher quality than those TVs.

Go with an LG plasma instead. CNET loves those TVs and I'll be picking myself up one.

IR shouldnt be permanent. IR is usually most noticeable when the screen is one solid color, like all white or all black. i use to worry about IR when i first bought my plasma, but now i dont care about IR. game for hours at a time, and never had permanent burn in.

Do New lcds also suffer from image retention? And as time goes on does image retention on a plasma become harder or easier to get? Sorry for all these quiestions but really think whether I should keep it or not. I found out I can play Fight Night and take of the bars even though I kinda need them but Killzone 3 I play a lot to and I really need the hud in that game. I see very little IR from KillZone 3 but not bad. If LCDs suffer from the same thing then I'll keep it, if not then I think I should sell it even though the tv is awesome

I'm not sure. Our LG LCD hasn't gotten it yet and its constantly being switched from a torched/vivid (Hey not my doing. I'm too lazy to change the settings for cable.) and a calibrated setting for best picture possible (Setting grabbed from AVS Forum.) Don't think it will anytime soon.

IR is harder to get after the first hundred hours or so of using it, according to other plasma owners. The phosphers and panel are broken in by then. I'm surprised you aren't having problems with KZ3. Others have problems with phospher lag with games like Black Ops or KZ3. Guess they're sets are just defective.

Theres no need to sell it, unless you want a better picture, bigger screen, or 3D.

When the phosphers, what fills pixels in a plasma TV, aren't decaying fast enough. Distorts color in small parts of the screen. Only happens with a very small amount of displays and a lot of users don't really care about it as it usually goes away.

My C2 faintly phosphor trails. It decreased as I got more hours in(that, or I got used to is), and at this point, it's almost non existent, and I don't notice it until I look for it. I cannot stand the motion on LCDs anymore. This includes ones with IPS panels, 120/240hz, etc. Motion is the main reason I won't go back to an LCD. Motion on a plasma is so much smoother. OP, find a channel with the white snow, and let that run for hours. This should help take away any retention. On a high end set like the G25, especially after a few hundred hours, burn in is pretty much impossible, unless you abuse the set. It's just retention, and snow is supposed to be one of the best things you can do for retention. Also, don't confuse retention with residual charge. Residual charge is where the phosphor holds it's charge, and will be brighter than surrounding phosphors. If it isn't visible on a white screen, it's not retention, and will go away pretty quickly.

I'm pretty sure its image retention because the fight night stamina and health bar have been there for almost 2 weeks now. It might go away but now when I play fight night I took the hud off which sucks but its the only way I can use the tv right now. If its true the more hours the sets has the less chance of burn in and IR happening then I will keep the tv. Like I said this tv is everything I wanted except for this IR thats been happening.

Whats wrong with LCDS motion. I know somesuck but some seem pretty good

Some manufacturers are ignorant and refuse to fix the ghosting/input lag on their mid/high end TVs. Mostly LED-lit LCDs. That and it doesn't refresh as fast as a plasma.

I have a Panny Plasma Viera Series 1 and it does go away. Go into Anti-Image Retention, set it to Pixel Orbiter (automatic). And if the image retention still bothers you or hasn't gone away, use the scrolling bar. I absolutely love my Panasonic Plasma. Best HDTV I've owned yet. I've used Sony, Samsung, LG, and Panny is by far the best of the bunch.

This years Panasonics also looking amazing, i'm really tempted to pick up the V30 next month. The GT30 which is Panasonics mid range TV got a great review on HDTV.co.uk http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/panasonic-tx-p42gt30b-p42gt30-201103281070.htm

Especially the 3D performance improved over last years models.

But i'm still concerned if it would be a good idea to use a Plasma primarily for gaming and PC.

I use my Panasonic G25 about 90% fo the time for gaming. Theres nothing to worry about. The IR does go away. Just don't obsess over it and stick your face up against the screen, and enjoy the awesomeness of plasma.

Yes. Eventually, there won't be any retention, and it will all be residual charge, which will never go away.

Not at all. Residual charge is only visible on a black no input screen, and disappears as soon as you give the phosphors a new charge.

WiiRocks66 is correct. Probably just some image retention from a fairly new TV where the image retention just broke in that part of the picture a little sooner.

Well I have had it since september, didn't start putting a lot of ours into until early this month. Gaming for about 4-6 hours a day. I don't use it for watching cable tv and occasionaly watch a blu ray. Mainly a gaming tv. If IR really won'r become a problem then I will keep it, but The IR is still on the tv and has been there for almost 2 weeks now. Doesn't look like its going down and I haven't played fight night since I have seen it. Its very hard to see, but never the less, it bothers me if its going to be there for ever
