How do i convince my parents to buy me a new computer for christmas !! ??? for crysis.burning_ice11
Back when my parents bought me hardware, I used to accidentally damage some part of the computer that needed the entire system to be replaced, along with some convincing that I need a new computer for school, etc. I did this four times in the past 7 years, caring to break another part of the computer at times when my parents also needed to use it.
They may get suspicious, but there's nothing they can do really, but buy you a new computer. And since it should be you, the most computer-savvy member of the family that chooses the parts, well... hello 8800 GTX, 2 GB of RAM and Core 2 Duo.
tell them its for christmas, and your birthdays for about 5 years.
thats what i always did!

you promise them to get good grades in school - works half of the time :)
Most intelligent parents would realize that there's no way their kid's going to get good grades once they start playing games every hour of their lives...unless your Asian of course. Alrite!

Well on a more serious note, I think parents like to see improvment rather than empty promises.
I'm much more into mountain biking than gaming so when I needed a new bike to race on, I had tomeet my parent's expectations onall my SATs, college essays, and finals. Then they helped me buy the bike which costed 4000 bucks. No way I could buy that on my own.
It also helps to have a job. That way you can maybe even work out a monthly payment system with your parents. Sometimes I have to resort to that .
Good luck anyways.
Work for your parents for a bit of moneyand then ask for lots of money for christmas. Thats what i did back in the stone ages.

well i have the ability to get good grades - the problem i'm lazy so i promise them to get good grades for lets say....new video card lol - but that was past, now i realize that i'm studing only for myself and for my future :) (but i'm still lazy though) :P
I had to do the same thing for the exact same game, and I am now the proud owner of an awesome gaming machine with all the latest stuff and I'm 15. It's very hard to get your parents to let you get a new PC. First of all you probably need to buy it with your own money, I know this may be difficult considering if you want to run Crysis on DX10 you need a pretty nice computer around $2200+. Maybe talk them into helping you buy it a little. Also include things to get in your PC that your parents can use. Make it sound like it's just as much for them as it is for you. That sometimes helps. Also you need to know that proper parent convincing for something like this takes time. scorched1992
Woh man, you can build a Dx10 rig that will max crysis for about 1500, not 2200...dont go scaring him away. But then again, you might be right if youre buying prebuilt.
Idunno about you, though, OP. I was fortunate enough to have parents that understood my gaming hobby, so every 4-5 years we would get a new PC. It took a lot of convincing however, and I had to take a job washing dishes at 15.
Stuff that helps:
-do lots of research, and share your results with your parents ("Look, mom, I found the same computer for 200 dollars less!"). This helps not only because you find better deals, but it shows your parents that you are a responsible shopper.
-Learn how to build your own. Its a lot easier than you think, simply a matter of putting stuff in slots and attaching a few wires. Oh, and you will save hundreds! Parents problably wont approve though. On a side note, you can buy all the components and have your local tech shop assemble the PC for you for about 80 dollars.
-Dont beg. Nobody likes begging. Instead, just remind them. Say "Hey, I found a nice PC for 1400 dollars" and leave it at that. THe key to convincing parents, or anyone for that matter, is repetition. Convince them that you are dedicated to getting a new computer, and that you will do almost anything to get one. You are smart enough to ask for a PC way before Christmas actually comes, so buy gently reminding them what you want twice a week for the next 4 months you might wear them down :P
-Work and save money, or do chores. If you have a job, save your money and try to strike a deal with your family. If you dont have a job, ask them if you can work it off by doing yard work or housework.
ANd most importantly, DONT SETTLE! The last thing you want to do is make a compromise and end up with a crappy 800 dollar "typewriter" with onboard graphics from Walmart or something. Not only will your family be out 800 dollars, but you will be stuck with a poor PC for a few years. To a non-gamer, a new computer is a new computer and it doesnt need to be replaced until it breaks. Respectfully make clear exactly what you want. For example, make sure your parents understand that for 1400 dollars you can get a Core 2 Duo processor, Geforce 8800GTS, 2GB of memory, and a 250GB hard drive, and the other stuff. Just an example.

How about you wait until you're 16. You could get a job working part time during school and full time during the summer. Maybe you could ask your parents use their credit card to buyyou a computer you want. With your job you could make monthly payments to pay it off. That way you could get want you and determine how much you are willing to pay for a computer to play Crysis. If you are willing to wait six months to a year to play Crysis, It would be well worth it. Another thing this would be a good move to show your parents you are responible.
My mother baught me my first pc when i was 15, but then when i wanted a new one i got a job on my summer vacation :)
It's better when you earn the money for a new PC yourself, because then your parents can't use the computer argument when they're bashing you for some crap you've done

That's easy.
First, go download a bunch of porn/hacked software/"free" software, etc. Get as much ADWARE/SPYWARE as you can. Install viruses.
Second, let your Mom use the computer.
The second a "free XXX hardcore animal love" ad pops up on the desktop, she'll freak! Tell her you want a new computer, and you want it quick because you are scared of all the porn and viruses on your current PC.
You may go to hell, but you'll have a fun time on your new PC until then ;-)

QFT x 100 - I never buy the absolute top-of-the-line, but I always go for about 80% of the best (e.g. 8800 GTS 640 MB was WAY cheaper than the GTX, and nearly as good).
Also, OC'ing helps - some CPUs, such as the E6400, come stock @ 2.2 GHz; my E6400 is OC'd to 3.3 GHz without any special cooling devices. Just make sure you research the issue first.

lol - I am so relieved I don't care :-)
Well you dont need a new pc probably:
new mobo- $80
8800gts-$270
2gigs of ram-$100
amd dual core-$150
That's $600. Tell your parents kids have xbox 360 or ps3, and those are $500-600 so just say this is like getting a xbox 360/PS3 and it can be used for studying faster ;)
How do i convince my parents to buy me a new computer for christmas !! ??? for crysis.burning_ice11
Firstly, do your parents have enough money to blow on a new PC for a game? If they don't (you know, those pesky bills and all), then there is nothing you can do.
Secondly, maybe you should get a job after school to save up to contribute.
My parents would have laughed me out of the dining room.......you spoiled piece of **** a job when you turn 16, and earn your own money.
bblundell
haha, sounds like the exact same thing my parents would say
to the TC, just save up dude, your parents most likely NEED the money for other things... i'm 14 and i'm already starting to save for my car, you wouldn't be the only kid that has to...
I couldn't get a job, so to get a gaming rig I promised a 3.5 end of year GPA and an 1800 SAT score. I got both of those things and now I got an E6400, 2 gigs of pc 6400 ram and a 7950 GT OC card (don't see need for a dx10 card) AND a 21" Samsung widescreen monitor :)the_ChEeSe_mAn2
I wish my parents were that rewarding about grades... ;)
But anyways TC try and (help) fund it by doing any of the following: keep contact with all your relatives but especially the ones that like to give ;) , learn to use eBay to your full advantage of selling all old (and new) junk for example your current computer/parts, try to find job oppurtunities in your house and neighborhood like mowing the lawn, painting the fence, washing cars etc. Make friends who upgrade a lot and like to give away their computer parts when they upgrade or sell them for cheap (ok thats just me) And/or get a job like at McDonalds (I think you only have to be 14).

Yep, I've been working all summer to pay for a new agming rig. Get off your lazy ass and get your own money for a Computer. Your parents have paid thousands upon thousands of dollars for your food, clothes, luxuries throughout life, have had to put up with you getting mad when you didn't get things your way, and they have to pay bills on top of that, as well as attend to their own needs. Show your parents some godamned respect and quit begging them for everything.
I used to be just like you, until I realized how selfish I was being. Not only do you want a new computer from your parents, but you want a $60 mouse, surround sound, and top of the line components. You really should feel guilty for even trying to convince them.
